Hi All,

I've seen a thread on this in 2018/19 - but it has been closed so I had to start this thread. I was wondering if QF still enforces a 3-hr check in limit for QF flights out of MEL? I'm flying QF9 and I was hoping to check in 4-5 hrs earlier if possible?

I don’t think it was Qantas enforcing the 3 hour check-in? I thought that was MEL airport except for A380 flights?

I was there a few days ago and check-in for my QFi flight was open before the 3 hours but I don’t know how much before.

I was about 10mins earlier than the 3 hours but I know previously that it was a pretty strict 3 hours start.

I flew QF9 in December 2021 with a scheduled departure time of 18:45 and I remember I was already checked in by around 15:00 so I'd say it should be open at least 4 hours ahead... Are you checking in luggage? Otherwise you can visit the domestic lounge while waiting for check-in to open (like I did). Do report back!

It's currently 4hrs prior for international flights.

Thanks for that info - obviously it's a first world problem, I just want to spend as much time as possible in the QF F lounge - MEL is my personal favourite.

I'll aim to get there 4.5 hrs before and see if I can check in and will report back.

Interestingly, I only transited via Mel, had 5+ hours before the connecting international flight. The automatic immi gates won't let me through. 2 tries and the staff then came around asking if I realised I was very early and once I get through I couldn't come back out. When I said yes, they had to manually process my passport and happily got the last spa spot before they closed

If you checkin online will automated bag drops take your luggage earlier?

Fortunately in SYD there’s all day checkin - for those wanting to really max their QF F lounge time!

And if you do check in, I'm sure you'll proceed immediately to the F Lounge, book your spa treatment.
And then tell us here on AFF. 💆‍♂️

Hahaha - I'd be lying if it was going to be any other way haha.

This happened to me as well once when I was flying from Sydney to LHR via MEL.

There is no automatic bag drop in MEL international for Qantas.
