Transit in MEL Int to Dom

I have a transit from QF10 to QF498 in MEL and found this old thread with a guide to how to get from T2 arrivals to T1 departures via an internal elevator after customs.

Is this still the case, or do I need to collect my bags after customs and exit T2 and walk outside to T1 to drop the bags for the flight to SYD?

Also advice on that thread suggested that a bag tag would be put on at LHR through to SYD and we just needed to scan it at the bag drop for the final leg - still valid?

At MEL collect bags and go through Customs, turn left and walk through the building to T1 to drop off bags.
