I currently have Qantas silver status. I am used to travelling and paying for all my flights but now it's time to start using up some of the points I've accrued.

Around Aug/July I am planning to take myself and my mate (who has no status) on a RTW trip.

When I am flying on points will I still be looked upon at a silver status member when it comes to some of the benefits, like:

- extra luggage allowance
- consideration for an op-up
- seat preferences
- check in at business
- priority boarding

Of course, I know that I would not receive points or status credits on this trip.

Luggage: same as if you had a paid ticket
op-up: nope
Seating: can be varied
Checkin: yes based on your status
Boarding: based on travelling Y D etc.. Can't remember if Silver got you boarding any sooner.

You will receive all the published benefits of a Silver status QF FF member and a OneWorld Ruby status member.

Note that op-ups are not mentioned in any published benefits of either QF FF or OneWorld programs.

It's as posted by NM.

FWIW, SWMBO & I received an op-up WHY to Y+ on an award flight MEL-SIN last month. I believe that was based on an unpublished benefit of status.

Thanks guys. That's very helpful.

One follow up question which I left out.

The trip will pass through North America. Will the 2 x 23kgs of checked baggage allowance apply for all flights in the one world RTW itinery?

I know that my extra allowance for silver status will not apply on non-Qantas operated flights.

I thought that the luggage allowance applied for the entire itinerary?

Note that QFF Silver and Bronze if QC members + one guest can access BA and AA lounges if flying with those airlines. This applies whether on points or paid.

Yes, so long as its the one itinerary your baggage allowance for all sectors will be based on the piece system. Son two pieces each per flight. But do note that different airlines set different weight limits per piece. Stick with 23kg max and you should be fine. I don't think any limit individual pieces to less than 23kg (yet).

I'm not sure about non-Qantas flights, but if you travel on Qantas in the US you get one extra piece of luggage, not the extra 10KG. But it's better that way anyway.

I am still waiting for an on-up on an award flight. I am hoping to get an op-up in August/September on my Oneworld award but all flights look very lightly loaded even though the trip is only a few months away.

Though there are reports of op ups on award tickets (and I have also been op upped on an Aaward) these are all by people who have had OW emerald status at the time.In my case it was because Y had been overbooked so we were put in F from J.So your chance of an op up is very close to zero.
For any itinerary going through the USA the baggage allowance is 2 pieces. So as a RTW ticket you will be fine.basically all OW airlines now have a sign at checkin with the 23KG limit.AA can be very tough on this limit.

I have just finished making the bookings for my One World reward RTW trip. Amongst the legs of the reward trip is:
Hong Kong to coughet (and return) on Dragin Air.

The Dragon Air website says that the checked luggage limit for economy is 20 kgs. Does anyone know if this will also change to 2 x 23kg bags since it is a part of the RTW trip (which does pass through Nth America)?

I was quite surprised that I was able to include Dragon Air in the reward trip, whereas I was not able to use Jetstar for the return home from Thailand to Melbourne.

Dragonair is part of OW whereas Jetstar is not.

Jetconnect is a member affiliate to Qantas, while Jetstar isn't.

Dragonair is a member affiliate to Cathay Pacific.
