We (family) are traveling to the USA in November.
I need travel insurance that will cover cancellation expenses etc if one of us gets covid and can't board our cruise that we are taking from the USA or other covid related expenses.
I am having a hard time finding, I've exhausted all my usual companies.

Anyone know of any that do this? Most seem to cover medical, but not cancellation expenses. I need to be sure all bases are covered.

Try Allianz or Worldcare ( Allianz) . Just bought a policy for an expeditionary cruise Australian Waters. I emailed them to make sure if we cancelled pre cruise with Covid they would pay all our out of pocket expenses including cruise and land costs. They do.

lovely thanks, i'll check out their PDS.
I think Southern Cross also cover it, which I have used before but forgot about in my initial search.
They were also very helpful when we needed to make a claim.

It's so hard at the moment trying to read all the PDS documents to fish out what is and isn't included. Quite exhausting.

Be aware that a few policies are popping up which will not cover pre-departure cancelation costs due to COVID if taken out within 21 days of the policy/travel start date.

Covermore does. its says so in big letters on front page.

What i also noticed is any insurer that covers Covid events, is at least double the price of those who dont.

Yes this is a good tip. I learned this the hard way while awaiting Chub to confirm my purchases were sufficient to make my Platinum Charge coverage activate (they weren't) and had difficulty finding a policy that would cover cancellation.

Untrue at least in my experience, you just need to keep tooking.
Yes I agree. Considering it’s 3 years plus that I took out any TI and we’re now in that older age group, I was quite surprised that my policy was much the same cost. … 28 days unlimited cancellation, pre existing medical conditions covered for just over $1100.

And considering my home/contents insurance has just increased by 35% and that’s on top of a 10% increase last year.

Really? Mine has increased by 5% at most. I live in the ACT.

I've got an 11 day trip to Indonesia and Thailand in a few weeks. I just got insurance because it's a requirement for Indonesia, and the credit cards don't have COVID-specific policies.

Most for my 11 day trip were $100 AUD, Fastcover was $80 but then I found an app called freely (really just covermore rebranded) which is $66 for 11 days. Doesn't include cover for my tech gear, that would be more expensive. But I travelled through 36 countries and never lost my gear so I'll take the risk for 11 days.

Remember to read the PDS, I cared more about the price and that's it. Their Certificate of Insurance doesn't show anything related to COVID, which could be an issue at Indonesian immigration. Also the wording around insurance for riding a scooter was vague, it says "if you hold an Australian license". Does that mean car license or motorbike license?

I've read the PDS for Freely, but it doesn't mention maximum trip duration for multi-trip annual insurance, other than to say it depends on what you choose. I'm not willing to download an app just to find out - does that happen to show on your app?

Actually when shopping for a new multi trip policy that has to provide cover to someone 75+ and have at least a 60 duration of individual trips the cheapest was one who also provided covid cover.

Freely sent me a special covid 19 letter through live chat, they do it individually as per customer request

Sorry, but did I miss which insurance company that was?

As someone of a similar age , I'd be interested to know who...

Southern Cross travel insurance.
When a bit of a problem uploading insurance details for the Thai Pass as can only be 1 page and have covid details on it. Rang SCT and immediately a 1 page summary was emailed. basically sounded like they had done this for Thai travel before.

I was going to purchase the AXA policy for Thailand travel but forgot that I will hire a car for 13 days and need the rental vehicle excess.

Southern Cross multi trip policy for max 30 days duration per trip is <$300.

From memory these types of policies pre-Covid were close to $400 if not more.
