Qantas extends status extensions until end June 2023 (previously December 2022)

In the case of Qantas, they normally begin assessing 'normal' renewals about a month out from your renewal date. So, if you've got 1,200 already, they would have processed that extension sometime since the beginning of February.
That prob does line up then in that case, I didn't notice exactly when it changed.

If one got the 600 to renew Gold it doesn't matter when they did. Could have got it one week into membership year and the status would update appropriately. This is a separate situation.

This year, I'm lucky in the sense that I've been able to take advantage of a number of cheap JQ SUNTAN fares whilst those promotions were going (i.e. JQ MAX fares from SYD to DRW for $320 netting me 100 SCs). I know some folks will say, what's the point in earning QF status if you're flying JQ all the time, but that's beside the point. I use status as an excuse for me to get out and engage in flight therapy. If I was spending QF bucks on flights I doubt I could say I've got 10 domestic trips booked this year, particularly on a student's budget! The fact that I earn QF Gold and will be able to use the extra luggage allowance and lounge access extensively next year is merely icing on top.

In any event, as it presently stands, I would find it difficult for QF to be extending status that much longer. The borders are now opened up, domestic travel will officially be back on the books by next week with the nation of WA opening its borders to us lowly Australians to say nothing of the countless opportunities to earn status real quick with carefully routed international trips. Will QF offer double status credits to everyone as part of a promo and potentially status roll over to the final COVID cohort? Potentially. But I think (fingers crossed) this will be the last year of status extension. I can't comment for anyone else, but the idea of having status on United and Qantas but being unable to use it due to restrictions was frustrating to say the least!

Dont give QF ideas, 600 is hard enough for some of us to get to, to renew Gold.
If you want to give QF ideas, perhaps they should tie status to the $$$ you spend on airfares like Lufthansa, United and Air Canada are now doing. Here's to hoping the days of status credit runs remain for the forseeable future (or at least as long as required for me to hit lifetime Gold with QF).

apologies. I was distracted by a Special Military Operation. I have corrected now :)
Well, that's one way to achieve a milage run, I suppose 😅

My status also ends 28/2 and I'm already showing 2023 expiry - not sure whether due to the extension or SCs though (I earned over the normal requal threshold anyway).
Mine has also rolled over already; two weeks or so ago now. However, like you, I earned the required SC myself and met the target back in July last year, so that would be the reason why. I think those doing the "book one flight" route might have to wait until March 1.

Yes, I’m only showing 2022, but I also only earned 1039 SC this membership year. There is a small discrepancy where the login screen shows my total SC at 1110 that I’m not totally across… ie where 71SC have come from or gone missing to.

I figured I may have to wait until then. Glad to hear it’s normal… I just didn’t want to get an email saying something along the lines of, we’ve granted you a free year, when I want to save that for a time I really have no hope of renewing my status, not when I was meant to get it anyway. IYKWIM.
Before COVID they started offering to retain by spending points instead of giving a free year.

sorry for the noob question, but i am getting anxious about retaining my status.

Does anyone know whether flights by Qantas Link etc qualify as "Qantas Operated flights" for the purpose of the status retention.

I have booked 4 flights, but as we live in CBR, they are all on Qantas link or its variants. I jut don't want to stuff this up!

Yes Qantas Link qualifies

thanks @blackcat20 and @Lynda2475 - I thought that was the case, but it's been so long since I really flew anywhere that I've lost the plot a bit!

With big trips planned for end of 2022, I really want to retain the WP status and would hate to stuff it up by neglecting the fine print on the offer.

Being a fellow Canberra-ite, I too can confirm QantasLink flights are ok, as that's what I have been relying on for the Status Extension in 2021 and this year as well.

Thanks @kookaburra75 - it seems that it is almost all Qantas Link or similar these days Out of CBR. I have flights to MEL and OOL and none are on Qantas mainline. They seem to be using the smaller B717s these days.

edited my autocorrect incorrect corrections 😂 so it makes sense.

They will qualify for status credits. Equally important is that some JQ fares (namely in the Plus and Max bundles) can also earn QF status credits which may also be useful for keeping status, particularly when they run sales. For instance, I'm earning 100 status credits on a $320 DRW fare I booked not too long ago.

Thanks @kangarooflyer88 - I actually meant for the purposes of the special offer of “book one flight before your membership year ends and take one flight befor 30 June“ to retain status. The small print on that offer says must be a QF operated flight.

It's always the fine print that gets me! 😅

I have not flown current membership year. If I understand correctly I just need to book 1 QF flight before 31/May/22 and I keep Platinum for another year.

Thanks Qantas.
