I believe this is the correct forum to post. Looking to get to Canada in either Dec 2021/Jan 2022. Some of the best flight options for me appear to be JAL but the flights I have looked at require a change of airport from HND to NRT .. some are same day flights others are overnight. As a leisure traveller, I believe I do not qualify to enter Japan which is what I believe is necessary to complete this flight. Have I read this correctly on JAL's site?1637981451144.png

Unless you can enter Japan and I am not across the entry rule these flights would not work. Have you considered JL MEL-NRT.

Hadn't thought of that @Matt_01 .. cheers I will take a look .. thanks for the confirmation @kelvedon .. I knew it was too good to be true. I am now thinking easier to get to NYC or LAX and then separate flight to YYZ ..

Yep .. I was hoping there was some 'closed' channel process for getting between the airports but obviously this would be a big ask. It's too bad as JAL presented some of the best value/opportunities for me to get to YYZ, ORD etc.

Travelers who are not entering Japan and transferring directly to a third country by transit, are not required to submit any documents and undergo PCR tests.
However, the following cases require entry into Japan. Please be informed that foreign nationals arriving from prohibited countries will not be allowed to enter Japan.
  • Transferring between Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport) and Narita International Airport
  • Travelers with a connecting flight out of Narita International Airport the following day
Additionally, for passengers transiting via Japan to another country, please refer to the Entry restrictions for each country and Quarantine Measures information.

That’s a PITA because there still some good JL J fares to LHR ex-SYD that transit only HND that time of year. The connection time over isn’t great but reasonable on the return.

Yeah .. I was eyeing up J fares to ORD .. and then realized JAL was going to be the best value to get to North America (NYC, ORD, YYX, YVR etc.) .. ANA may be a possibility for me now ...

Hey .. follow on in the same vein .. This hotel (which I have seen mentioned elsewhere on AFF) .. if I had a layover that was long enough .. anyone know if I could stay here as I would not be leaving Terminal 3. Just wondering if anybody has had experience during 'covid times'.

I believe this, the airside transit section of this hotel is closed at the moment because of Covid, despite what the website suggests. Maybe call them to confirm?

Safe bet .. yes .. will do @kelvedon

THere is good QF award fare availability Au-Eu vv using JL in European summer travel dates, but the NRT-HND vv transfer in either direction currently problematic…..

As I alluded to earlier, there’s very attractive sub $6k J fares ex-SYD which all xHND. Connection over is about 20 hrs overnight (which wouldn’t be an issue if you could go landslide - otherwise replicate the experience in that earlier article!). The flight home is something like 4 hr transit - which is bearable if you can access the JL 1st Lounge.

Landslide is a novel way to travel.... :)

Speaking of, transiting Japan just went downhill further (if that was possible)?

yes - I’m seeing all these people telling us they are booked to go here, there and everywhere and I just wonder how sure it is that their travel will eventuate between now and at least mid 22. I truly hope things go well for all of them, both getting where they want to go, and getting home without having to endure iso on return.

Apparently it’s was possible and more, JP airlines ordered to stop selling inbound flights until 01 Jan! It’s not clear if this is only flights arriving prior to 01 Jan or all future dates….

..and now they have dropped the ban a day later :)
