Australian state border restrictions

Doubts grow over Perth’s ability to host Ashes Test match, says WA Cricket chief Christina Matthews, as border restrictions cause havoc

WA Cricket chief executive Christina Matthews says there is now only a 50-50 chance of the fifth and final Ashes Test match being played in Perth, after initially being bullish about retaining the test.

The clear favourite to host the match if Perth Stadium is unable to is Tasmania, considering the state's earlier interest.

Canberra shapes as another option, but it faces juggling fixtures, with three WNCL matches from January 7 to January 11.

Chances much lower than that according to WAC rep on the media. They've pretty much accepted its over.

I don’t believe in karma but……
I have always been a strong believer in karma. It helps me deal with unfathomable injustice. And I also understand that it can sometimes be served cold.

The Brits won't mind missing Perth in mid January either - bouncy summer pitches. And they will insist they don't have to get tested, isolate etc etc that would come with being in Perth after Sydney.

I'd love to see Tasmania get the Ashes Test, it's such a sporting state, yet gets overlooked time & time again.
WA losing an event a side benefit that'd make me smile.

Lovely place the little island.
Seems there're looking to open, positive message I read. Good on them. I'd be happy to go for weekend again.

So much panic and gloom, there is no evidence to date that we need be especially worried about Omicron, its not driving a surge in deaths even in South Africa where it originated.

We have shown we can detect the new variant and positives are isolating (as they would for any other positive result), people need to chill the sky isn't falling and Christmas isnt cancelled unless you need to have attendees from WA (and that was always going to be the case even pre omicron).

It's easy to write that, but the reality is that I've already had two calls this morning regarding NSW jobs we've got booked for December. No-one is worried about the virus but everyone is very spooked by previous Government actions.

Agree, once again we are more terrified of our respective governments knee jerks than the scary new teenage mutant variant…

And a great way to keep the Tas borders open 🥳

SA AMA wants to close SA again. Take a hike!
Who are these numnuts, what did they think was going to happen when you open?? Gee whizz!
How many cases are there again? Can count total on your 2 hands can't you.

I think at times these health officials have too much sway, earlier yes ok, but now? and when does the gov take back the reigns??

The AMA has no sway at all over anything the government does.

Watching the sometime from AMA SA right now on ABC. Scare monger, saying we should have more dedicated facilities. Yawn.
Bear in mind the AMA can parrot what they want but they have no influence

No but they set a particular theme for the conversation in the community because, for historical and certainly not contemporary reasons, simply the acronym AMA carries far more weight than it should.

The community is moving on I think. Certainly a lot more calling for calm and taking on those who love their doonas too much. You know the ones, they are guaranteed their income and don't have family interstate. No skin in the game. I just keep calling them the Doctors union and Doctors aren't the flavour of the month in SA because so many of them are refusing to treat unvaccinated patients, something I find abhorrent.

I'm surprised they are able to refuse to treat a patient. I thought the hippocratic oath prevented that sort of decision.
