Australian state border restrictions

Is this a diversion from NT?. I have been following the Guardian 80% predictor, which updates each day about when they reckon states/territories will reach 70 and 80%. For some time now they have punted on NT running stone motherless last, reaching 80% about a month after Qld and WA.

In the last couple of weeks, the predicted date for Qld has gone backwards by nearly a week.

cheers skip

Oh don’t worry the genius idea of vaccinating at Bunnings will snare about 35 more people. Sigh. It’s such a disaster here :(

Seems a bit like QFs song and dance about moving the London services to Darwin is a bit of an own goal. Would have been better off routing it through Denpasar

Why? May as well stop at Singapore if you're going to do that.

Got to get fuel somewhere, and I think they wanted to maintain the Australia direct to UK selling point for people worried about getting stuck halfway.

Not sure it was much of a song and dance - perhaps the by the NT government, but not Qantas.

The Singaporeans aren’t exactly being easy either…. Yes, they’re stuck in a hard place.

Joyce was pretty vocal about bypassing Perth due state border restrictions. I don’t see how the NT is any better?

If you’re not picking up pax in either may as well go on the shortest route which is DRW

Least worst option I guess, NT is open to other states if they want to home quarantine. Better than a state that won't even let you apply for an exemption.

If its only a tech stop the cheapest would be to stop half way....CMB for a crew change and refuel.

But the idea is marketing based too. You don’t touch another country till your destination. Singapore has fed into this with their open/shut/open mantra which is why QF are overflying them.

I just received formal notification from the Indian Pacific rail operator that my booking SYD-PER 1-4 December is suspended. No surprise, of course.

That's the second time. I guess one day I'll get to do it.

OK. Not sure I really understand how things can ever really be open with this attitude. If there is any COVID in Sydney and travel is allowed to the regions, then COVID will spread to the regions.

I thought it was because of the much lower vaccination rates in the regions because the prioritised Sydney metro in the rollout and this is just giving the regions a week to catch up?

(Apart from Northern NSW who will never catch up obviously 😂)

And then on 1 Nov when Vic hits 80% double dose everything opens?

Hunter/Newcastle had 103 cases today, over 25% of the state's cases and the most of any LHD. I think it might have them spooked.

Though ironically, we can still travel to the regions 🤔

The first jab rates are very healthy but second jab rate is lower - it was a late start due to the Pfizer delay outside of Sydney.

It might be cheapest from a dollar perspective during normal operations but it only takes one irregular ops incident to go pear-shaped very quickly. The aircraft goes tech, a flight attendant gets ill, bad weather etc. and suddenly you have 250-odd passengers needing to be accommodated. Qantas doesn't have staff in CMB; it does have staff in DRW and SIN.

The fact that Sydney will hit its 80% milestone this week has caught everyone off guard. The government clearly wasn’t prepared (clearly as the NSW checkin app isn’t ready yet) so we’re running around showing green ticks, trying to FaceID and pull out our vaccination certificates that provide probably a touch too much info to the security folk etc. I can’t say I’m surprised they’ve hit the brakes on regional travel for another week.

The checkin app is now ready - came through about 9pm last night. Need to update the Service NSW app to v7.

You then link from the Medicare Express app.

I think Victor Dominello cracked the whip to get it done… having a minister for customer service is a good thing.

In Melbourne even though I don’t get any extra freedoms - I noticed the new feature on our check in app - linked my vax cert and now check in w vax status
…makes no difference but personally feel like it’s the way forward….

Yes it was surprising NSW was late with the app given VIC isn’t opening for another week or so and they had theirs ready first. I have them all ready to go for when I travel next (doubt will be using much though unless very required 😆)
