Australian state border restrictions

Back on topic, as I mentioned upthread the tide is very quickly turning now up here on state border restrictions. People are really disappointed that out vaccine rollout has been so poor which has led to us being stuck in a situation now with people out of work and struggling business.

But as everyone heard, we’ve been given 5/6 weeks in QLD to rock up and get vaccinated by our Health Minister which is the strongest signal yet that QLD state border restrictions will be dropped, most certainly before Xmas.

Qld turns on Annastacia Palaszczuk over border rules

Tensions have reached boiling point in Queensland, with desperate business owners, suppliers, employees and unions turning on Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk over her border stance.

Ms Palaszczuk has refused repeated calls to release a roadmap to reopening with NSW and Victoria, leading commentators to suggest there is actually no plan in place to guide QLD out of the pandemic.

Owner of The Breakers holiday apartments at Broadbeach, Michael Stephens, accused the Premier of not caring about struggling businesses.

He told the publication that his occupancy rates have dropped from 85 per cent to five per cent and many of his Christmas bookings have been cancelled.

“She gets up every morning and is acting like this is a State of Origin game,” Mr Stephens said.

“We are not just Queenslanders, we are Australians.”

The vaccine rollout is appalling. 3 months after NSW and Victoria they roll out the idea of Vaccines at Bunnings. Just saying 'get vaccinated' at the press conference is not going to work. The pressure to open in 5 weeks, which will happen as you have called, will reveal all the health shortcomings.

Although in WA, many still seems to be a small minority. So, it will be a while before it changes.

I think at the moment people associate open borders with lockdowns / restrictions (I think its wider than WA)

With NSW and VIC opening up hopefully that perspective will change but it will take time.

Yes, a mate of mine who is a pretty smart chap and likes to travel (internationally) a lot.... still seems to agree with dear leader. Oh dear.

Agree, but seeing people from these two states having greater freedoms has to change perspectives. Hopefully plenty of stories on TV and social media about people enjoying holidays will do it.

Yes agree and family reunification at Christmas is going to be HUGGGGGEE.

People are starting to plan and book now and talk about it now the vaccine rates are hitting extraordinary heights in the ACT, NSW, VIC and TAS and confidence builds.

My Perth based family are furious at the ‘WA bogans who don’t care about people who have family in other states’ (their words not mine!).

And I'm still looking at a second Christmas in a row at attempting to get home and not being able to. To be fair, it's been 11 in a row now, so what's 1 more?

My next leave slot at work is in March, I am seriously considering a 3 week overseas holiday + 7 days home isolation, instead of making plans to attend my cousin's wedding in Perth...if only the quarantine situation was clear...

Prediction in NSW that they won’t be doing home quarantine for 7 days it might be test and release by then.

Victoria might be much better than everywhere but NSW but still feels a very long way behind them unless the politicians can actually wrest control of their own creation of narrative

I'm more furious at the 'people who don't think about the consequences on other people of them not getting vaccinated'.
i.e. those that will be impacted if they end up hospitalised or worse.

I would suspect vaccinated inbound to WA will be fine by March, possibly with isolate until negative if coming from an 'extreme risk' location (not my words). We now have a "deadline" of EOY to hit 80%. I haven't seen any announcements of what it means after that, but the pressure will start to build on king mark should the rest of the country start to return to life as normal.

Did I hear right today that the NT Gov said that best case by the end of the year was home quarantine for domestic arrivals ?
Yes and it's sh*tting me to tears. I reckon he overshot and knows it. Just announced today compulsory vaccination to ALL NT workers that deal with the public in any way shape or form. This to boost vaccinations as he knows he cant get indigenous vaccinations where they need to be.

He is also due to come out in 2 weeks or so with announcement on home quarantine for international travel. Pretty embarrassing to get on the QF Darwin to London and get thrown in 14 day Centre for National Resilience hotel quarantine with a $3,000 bill. That won't fly.

Is this a diversion from NT?. I have been following the Guardian 80% predictor, which updates each day about when they reckon states/territories will reach 70 and 80%. For some time now they have punted on NT running stone motherless last, reaching 80% about a month after Qld and WA.

In the last couple of weeks, the predicted date for Qld has gone backwards by nearly a week.
