Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

The NSW presser was very orderly today, with no one shouting at a premier to resign etc. I thought dear old Brad did well, Dr Gale is excellent, and (IMHO) the messaging was on target about suppression and vaccination. Starting to see glimmers of hope.
I think the NSW Health Minister tried the vaccination first a couple of weeks only to be mocked.

Now with covid-zero vanquished, leading off with vaccinations is much more acceptable.

All the speakers just need to stick to speaking notes - none really come up with new information so its sort of middling to say that is excellent.

I wonder whether NSW authorities will do special commissioning of Doherty - vis a vis making some relaxations (say for example fully vaccinated going out - and associated people who will lie that they are fully vaccinated, and also as a guess children ineligible to be vaccinated would be allowed out) and the impact it would have on NSW/Sydney case number.....including hospitalisation and ICU.

NSW still have to navigate the next 3 months of being undervaccinated.

Even at 70% of eligible vaccinated - its probably a touch under 60% of the population......
NSW is vaccinating at one of the fastest rates in the world now. If there’s carrots of opening up and sticks of vaccine passports we will continue to do this rate.

They have been doing their own research, specifically looking at Canada with provinces of similar populations. I don’t think they need to use Doherty for that.

So hard watching walking tour video's om Youtube. London, Budapest, Las Vegas, all out and about in August. Us not so much, hard seeing us doing same summer walks here in Australia in February next year.
My daughter/granddaughter posted photos from the Palace v Brentford match yesterday with the ground full (Selhurst Park) for the first time in about 18mths. Lovely to see life back to some normality, and the only hard part is that I cannot be there with them.

The virus spread here (and impact on communities) is very modest here compared to London despite the hysteria at times.

Unlikely. These days governments outsource all such issues so they can’t be held responsible for the failures.

Same old stuff as yesterday. So why do we need these daily again? Give them Sunday off at least, time to recharge for the week.

Dr Gale is excellent,

Totally, I said last week they should use her more often, she is a much better presenter than Dr McNulty and Dr Chant (but its important we see Dr Chant regularly).

That messaging has been front and centre over the last week. I dont think anyone in NSW was ever really onboard with the covid zero fallacy that other states were tring to force, Vaccination as the way out has been mentioned for months now.

Neither Gladys or Kerry were there.

Nobody is forcing you to watch. Those of us in lockdown do want an update. You’re not even in our state.

over 50 and have had over 6 months to get fully vaccinated.
May 3rd was the 2a start date but effectively May 10th.
That is just three and a half months since general 2a eligibility for first Jab.

Of course with the recommended AZ 12 weeks for the second jab that leaves 2b only three weeks less another 2 weeks for the vaccinations to take effect and be FULLY vaccinated.

One week is much less than six months.

I tend to agree with no daily media press conference.

If the case numbers don't matter, then why bother. Release numbers by press release - website, twitter

May be a press conference to tell people when they are allowed to book vaccinations. For example I think the 16-39 from the 12 LGAs should be given a warning that eg "its been a week and still plenty of appointments - if they are not filled by X date then it will be opened to all 16-39 regardless of LGA."

Hold a press conference when changing lockdown settings or to foreshadow a change if X and Y are met.

Not to mention that priorities have been changing since July so that eg pregnant women and 16-39s have now been given priority.

Again, you're free to turn your TV off. It's not mandatory.
