My mental calculation/comparison thinks Qld beat Vic today.

Now waiting for an update from an expected uneventful National Cabinet.

Qld beat Vic today and yesterday (EDIT and the day before) . Everyone is vaccinating faster which is great to see.

I passed the details on to my son, who was the Melbourne based 34 year old I was imitating, and he was able to get it to work. Hopefully he’ll do something about it.

We had this discussion last night at about 7:30 pm. I sent the link to my son, and he's just sent me a text to say that he'd just had his first jab, and has the second booked. So, thanks to Spongebob for that initial link.

Pop up vaccination hubs have been used in Vic for a little while now when they want to focus on a particular group.
With virtually no advance notice this one was quickly set up at Al-Taqwa. It will run for 2 weeks. Plus they also set up a pop-up Testing Hub while they were at ut.

Well if we keep having the outbreaks and lockdowns we currently have we will get it done by December but the trouble with that is it means outbreaks and lockdowns for another 4-5 months. The stats (e.g. see Victoria after the June lockdown) show that as soon as lockdown passes people stop getting vaccinated in anything like as high numbers.

Just wanted to reach out and hope the lockdown isn’t getting you down. While I haven’t experienced a harsh lockdown, our daughter arrived in London in early March last year for her dream job and then spent most of the year in one lockdown after another. She found it very hard and we used to talk to her everyday to support her through it, so I know it’s a tough time.

FYI USA are now exporting doses of US made vaccines, Canada and Mexico have purchased decent quantities. US also exporting components to India.

Pfizer approached our govenrment a year ago, however the feds put too many eggs in the AZ basket and took months to order any Pfizer at all, by which point we were lower down the delivery queue and then they didnt order enough.

We should have ordered 52M doses from the get go, other countries all ordered enough of each vaccine for their whole population from each company, ours didnt and we are all paying the price of lockdowns when we could have had much higher vaccinated, much earlier.

Wasn't there a potential future issue with pfizer supply unlike az at the time as they knew they could make it here. Plus would everyone in aus want to be the guinea pig. Hard to make a decision when you feel you may have time on your side unlike some countries with high death rates who would be keen to jump at the chance.

The point is no government getting any sort of advice should've had that - time on our side - attitude.

And that's not hindsight. I think a combination of fairly basic scientific principles (virus will mutate into more transmissible variants) plus knowledge of the fragility of the quarantine system would tell you to just get on with it. Furthermore if vaccination = relaxation of the world's most draconian border controls, then similarly, just get on with it!

No. The Federal Govt (mostly Scott Morrison) kept intimating that the delays for Priority Group 1A was due to 'supply issues'. Priority Group 1A was supposed to solely receive Pfizer.

Pfizer finally made an ultimatum - Scott Morrison by end of the day both stop falsely implying there were any issues with Pfizer and publicly announce that there had never been a single issue nor delay with any contracted delivery - or Pfizer would cancel the contracts.

Scott Morrison made just that statement at the very end of his media briefing in WA after the cyclone hit.

Actually at first we weren't going to be making AZ in Australia - CSL was signed up to manufacture the UQ vaccine once developed. When that fell by the wayside then AZ was signed up.

THey reckon fully vaccinate (ie 40 million) by late December. The 80% target is around 32m I believe. Not sure if thats ABC’s typo/error

I’m trying to look on the bright side. Even with the new Delta VOC elsewhere in the world , if we hadn’t had the outbreak take hold in Greater Sydney and some in Melbourne I think some of us would still be sitting believing
“it’s not a race”.

Yep just tipped over 50% but on current rates at least ACT and NSW will get there next week. Not a great week but I guess vaccination rates needs to be regarded as the positive.

I don’t think anyone is trying to get to that! I can see Canberra getting to 90%, but 100% is impossible.

Talking of Canberra they are starting to plan for school vaccinations for 12 years up, probably term 1 next year.
