The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Some interesting results emerging from Israel, will be interesting to see data from AZ. Would be a real twist in the tale if AZ ends up offering longer efficacy
Then there’s the possibility there could be less side effects getting a third AZ jab rather than mixing it up getting Pfizer having had AZ for the first two.

We can readily make AZ here in Australia and if we could use it for boosters for those who have already had AZ it would help with that rollout.

Woolworths introduces some good initiatives in NSW

Supermarket giant Woolworths begins offering staff COVID vaccinations at pop up Sydney clinics

Reporting by Ahmed Yussuf
Woolworths CEO Bradford Banducci said he's focused on getting as much of his workforce vaccinated. But hasn't ruled out incentives for workers to get the jab.
"It's something we'll consider down the road," Mr Banducci told ABC News Breakfast.
"It's about making it easy and taking away the taboo of being vaccinated. But we'll explore all options with all of our all stakeholders going forward."
Mr Banducci said in the last couple of days, 2,000 Woolworth staff have taken advantage of the priority access to the Homebush vaccination centre.
The company has set up pop-up clinics at its distribution centres to vaccinate staff, providing eight hours of paid vaccination leave to full-time and part-time staff.
In Greater Sydney now that most people can get AZ without a GP consultation means workplace vaccinations are now more viable than they were where there use till now outside of hospitals has been quite limited.

Is there a list somewhere of vaccinated % per country.

Lists in newspapers show we are 78th but I never see a link to the website.

Misinformation. Hospitals have never been a major delivery mechanism for AZ in NSW. AZ has been predominantly given via RCs and GPs, and now at some state hubs (the non hospital ones like Olympic Park).

Most of the state run hospital hubs (RPA, St Vincents etc) are for Pfizer.

Delivery of AZ outside of hospitals has not been limited, GPs are swimming in unwanted doses.

I've seen Our world in data does % of population, not % of eligible (or I can't find the % of eligible on their webpage).

I was 100% correct.

"workplace vaccinations are now more viable than they were where there use till now outside of hospitals has been quite limited" was referring to their use Australia wide up until now.

That the GP Requirement is not there now in Greater Sydney now makes workplace vaccinations more viable in Greater Sydney. In the rest of Australia workplace vaccination will most likely remain quite limited till more Pfizer(and Moderna) becomes available.

My own daughter has received AZ at her workplace in Victoria (back when GP consultation was not required). Other sites have well. Many GP Practices have also vaccinated their own staff. Public run aged care in Victoria has also had workplace vaccinations.

I was 100% correct.

No because workplace AZ vaccinations have never been a widespread thing in NSW. Hospital workers in NSW Sydney who were vaccinated at hospital hubs under 1a and 1b got Pfizer (and quite often at a different hospital to the one they worked at)

Use of AZ outside of hospitals has been far from limited (as you claimed), GPs have been the main way nationally for AZ delivery.

So your statement was far from 100% accurate, therefore misinformation.

Workplace vaccinations in NSW were done with AZ.
Plenty of hospital staff in Tamworth hospital and other regional hubs got the AZ vaccine.

Their decision to use "Statistical Areas" rather than LGAs or suburbs is annoying makes it very hard to cross check numbers, but unsurprisingly the lowest rates (below the state and national average) coincide with the 8 LGAs of concern.

The 70% and 80% targets are for adults, but this report lazily uses census grouping for 15 and above (instead of the medicare data) which will skew numbers too.

From ABC

"Yesterday the Commonwealth Health Minister announced that he could offer 150,000 extra AstraZeneca doses to Queensland immediately," Health Minister Yvette D'Ath said.

"That is fantastic. We will take them and more."

Apparently the QLD CHO said she wants them in arms this week.

Good luck. Hopefully some back channel calls have been made for certain people to pull their heads in (maybe from AMA types directly to the outgoing CHO...)

Yet on Four Corners last night everyone's least favourite epidemiologist Mary-Loiuse McLwas actually backed Dr Youngs advice re ÁZ.

Look at the vaccine utlisation rates for GPs, they arent short of AZ doses just short of willing takers. There are millions of unused AZ doses, the shortage remains Pfizer.

Thanks for posting this. I was about to watch it, but knowing she's in it has just swung me the other way.

WA to start a 'vaccine blitz' in two weeks time

Western Australia will start a "vaccination blitz" in two weeks' time to boost the number of people protected against COVID-19, the Premier Mark McGowan has announced.

Mr McGowan said over a two-week period from August 16, 140,000 vaccine doses would be available in state-run clinics, due to increased supply.

"We are going to offer it to in particularly those 30-39 year-olds who registered – they'll receive a text message shortly advising them that they can ring or make an online appointment to receive their vaccination," he said.

"And for others aged 30-39, from August 9 they will be able to book for their appointment during that blitz period or beyond.

Thank you for posting this and thanks to Maria Pasquale for showing us a country that has decided to LIVE, not simply exist! Their stats would probably freak out your average Aussie - today 3190 cases with 20 deaths in a population of 60 million. Bravo to the Italians for moving on with real life!
