The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

And perhaps for states like WA, TAS, NT to give up their vaccines for NSW

Got to laugh at the part of this suggestion that relates to Tas and NT. I mean WA is worth arguing. But getting Tas and NT to give up their doses is pretty much like the proverbial urination in a very large sea. Between them they administer about 35.000 doses a week. NSW almost 400. 000 in the last week. If you took half of the doses away from Tas and NT it’s not going to make a significant difference, At current rates that diversion would reduce time to 75% vaccination in NSW from 22 weeks to 21 weeks!

Well, it’s all well and good quoting figures about how many have been vaccinated. How about all those who are still waiting, including those in priority groups.

As for NSW seeking some sort of priority allocation, the vax allocation should remain based on state population numbers.
Just the point Peter Collignon was making on Sky News tonight.
We are trying to prevent outbreaks so in this instance we are in the same boat. If we stop some States vaccinating we increase the chances of another outbreak like that in Sydney.
And I for one don't want to be listening to any State Premier loosing their cool if that happened.

No official figures, but AZ may be on the rise in NSW given the surge in vaccinations through that surge since lockdown start. Now GP's are now getting Pfizer, but the allocation is still small.

Not the most positive news for AZ. :(

The UCL team analysed blood from 605 vaccinated people mostly in their 50s and 60s. They found that antibody levels varied widely between patients, but a double dose of Pfizer/BioNTech tended to produce far more antibodies against the coronavirus than two shots of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.

Three to six weeks after full vaccination with Pfizer, antibody levels typically stood at about 7,500 units per millilitre (ml), but more than halved to 3,320 units per ml after 10 weeks.

For AstraZeneca, antibody levels peaked at about 1,200 units per ml and typically fell to 190 units per ml after 10 weeks.

Since publishing the results in a letter to the Lancet, the researchers have seen the same trend in a further 4,500 participants in the study.
My understanding is the test data always showed Pfizer to be more effective than AZ, so I don't think there is anything unexpected in this report.

ATAGI Statement:

All individuals aged 18 years and above in greater Sydney, including adults under 60 years of age, should strongly consider getting vaccinated with any available vaccine including COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca. This is on the basis of the increasing risk of COVID-19 and ongoing constraints of Comirnaty (Pfizer) supplies. In addition, people in areas where outbreaks are occurring can receive the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine 4 to 8 weeks after the first dose, rather than the usual 12 weeks, to bring forward optimal protection.

Now NSW needs to open AZ at state vax hubs to all 18+ and there needs to be an advertising campaign to encourage people to take it. If that doesn’t have the desired impact they may need to provide further incentives.
Now this may just provide the incentive required....

The prevalence of erectile dysfunction, the study authors reported, was higher in the men who had covid-19 than those who did not – 28 percent vs. 9 percent. This kind of study can't show covid-19 caused the problem, but the difference in percentages was unlikely to be explained by random chance.

One explanation, those researchers suggest, was that covid-19 might interfere with levels of testosterone. That remains a hypothesis.

With all the gyms closed - this could cause a rush, so to speak. ;)

I was thinking more along the lines of getting some freedoms back or say requiring those working on construction sites to have had at least one vaccine dose etc.

So not as good as the day before.

Still NT 70+ now has over 50% fully vaccinated, the first state or territory to achieve this.

It’s a real shame that ATAGI didn’t take into account the severity of the delta variant back in April. It was raging through India and there quarantine has never been a 100% barrier. Today’s statement is a bit of an embarrassment and of course does nothing but further erode trust in them as an advisory body.

Yep, just more studies, so what both are effective…

Another study has just come out in UK showing AZ is much longer lasting than Pfizer … again so what, people who have Pfizer will just have to boost earlier… big deal I guess.

Both vaccines are excellent at providing effective protection from serious illness against the now dominant Delta.

Not neccessarily due to covid though.Men with low testosterone levels are more likely to get covid so not surprising there are more than expected men with lower testosterone levels in covid patients.A classic which is the chicken and which the egg.
