I wonder IF they do this how would it actually work? How does one prove it? a screenshot of a AIR immunisation record with two shots? Of course nobody could possibly fake that. Otherwise how? Privacy concerns for some no doubt so while I am all for the idea, I wonder exactly how it might work in practice.
Interestingly United Airlines is doing a similar promotion in the US. Over there they are getting those CDC cards (
google images "CDC Covid card" if you don't know what I mean), and that's the official proof of vaccination.
United is requesting people to upload a photo of their vaccination record to their frequent flyer account, in the same area as your contact information.
United says this will be retained after the competition has closed to assist with future travel eg. traveling to a country requires check-in staff to confirm vaccination status (which they can do given it's in your account) but they also say you can remove this information from your account at any time.
Obviously, with those CDC cards,
they're really easy to fake, in fact some employees working at vaccination centres were even caught stealing them.
Another interesting thing about the United promotion is that those who are unable to get the shot for whatever reason and also eligible to enter the competition and just have to upload a medical certificate stating why to the same spot above.
That would be a breeze if on vaccination we were at least offered the option of receiving some sort of certificate of vaccination.
In Australia, the reason why they're asking for your medicare number is so that it can be put on the national immunisation register. Mine was updated the day after my first COVID shot to have a new COVID-19 immunisation status at the top, further down the page lists the specific jab and date. Any Australian with a medicare or IHI number should be able to download their statement (from Medicare online) and I assume this is probably what you'll need as official proof when traveling in the future.
