Qantas doesn't care about priority boarding

Another priority boarding fail in MEL last night. There were two people scanning, and a clearly marked priority boarding lane on the right-hand side of gate 24. Yet, there was no announcement about priority boarding at all and it was just a free-for-all, with both lines being processed at the same time.

I have sent feedback to Qantas.

Are domestic flight loads back to normal when priority booking would be an issue?

Priority boarding fail in Adelaide when I flew out last Thursday 29th April and there were two Qantas stewards in the queue. Absolute chaos

Priority boarding Saturday morning from Brisbane to Sydney was called and managed as was flight back from Sydney late yesterday afternoon. Same for flights from Brisbane to Townsville weekend before last, and return. Flight down was nearly full, just a couple of shadows in first few rows. Back was full, quoted by CSM as over old as plane was being boarded.

I think the only way QF will ever get PB to work is to adopt group numbers like in the US. Even the dumbest person can count up to 10 and see on the monitor "now boarding group 3".
That might work but I think there’s a much easier solution which Qantas just does not seem to be able to: Just make your staff police the rules!

It’s exactly the same with those hordes of unwashed families from the back blocking the J lavoratory. It shouldn’t be that hard.

Staff ARE meant to be policing the rules - the cabin crew.

You know things are returning to normal when Qantas is stuffing up priority boarding once again.
They aren’t stuffing up, they just don’t care.
They know they have the market share and that many are rusted on and won’t leave no matter what. What incentive does QF have to enforce PB?

But what’s so hard to make them do it then? Any of the businesses I have worked in, the managers would have zero hesitation just making staff do it- why is this so hard for some reason?

Surely, after months of being laid off/furlonged/whatever, that’s not too much to ask for?

As noted in the Qantaslink thread, PB very well executed at HBA on Saturday (both lanes priority!), and again at MEL.

The next day, OK PB in ADL but in MEL no attempt at all.

I think it needs to be remembered that announcing priority and having a priority boarding lane is a very good start they are certainly not the end of it. As a number of members have highlighted reading a few words of a piece of paper and wheeling out large signs is about as weak as the tea in Y.

When was the last time you saw a gate agent turn someone away from the priority boarding lane because that person wasn't entitled to use it? Do you really think 100% of the people in the priority boarding line have earned that published benefit?

Weird I find MEL to be a very compliant port doing PB well and I’ve (accidentally) met the QF manager there pre-covid when they rolled out the new PB and it was really doing well, then covid hit. ADL I find the sloppiest port.

I think if people start feeding back again it will be corrected. Just whinging on here won’t do anything that’s for sure.

Queuing for the 604 this morning, rows 15-30 called just before the priority line (which had already formed). Single Gate Agent/FA stood at the economy point scans the first priority passenger - since none of the Y had yet got to the scanner - machine is unresponsive. (Proper) GA comes over at this point and tries to scan on the second scan point ... nothing, first GA manually enters first pax details. Everyone pointed to the one scanner. By now the Y pax have started to arrive "whoever was next" calls the first GA unhelpfully - so a merge situation ensues onto the manual scan process.

Obviously missed 3 pax on the manual process as there was an announcement onboard for 3 to "make themselves known using the call button" ...

A 25 min delay getting airborne due congestion (!), a 20 delay at BNE due to the suspension of ramp services because of the threat of lightning ... welcome back to the joys of travel!!

Regards,

BD

I hope you pass feedback on to QF about the MEL 'experience'.

Anyone know why they think it's important to say the flight is oversold rather than full? The CSM said it three times, that I heard, on Monday flight SYD-BNE.
