Qantas doesn't care about priority boarding

I think the only way QF will ever get PB to work is to adopt group numbers like in the US. Even the dumbest person can count up to 10 and see on the monitor "now boarding group 3".
As for people not doing their jobs by the book because they are being made redundant, I sure hope pilots still read their checklists!

I expect that you’ll get your wish. I doubt that Virgin or QF will survive. So, you’ll end up with something new, though I expect it will look more like Jetstar than anything else.
I hope not. Although I don’t fly often, when I do I always travel in premium cabins, both domestically and internationally. I choose to fly Qantas when possible due to the QFF program and the availability of reward tickets in premium classes. If Qantas becomes a pseudo Jetstar service, although I won’t like it, I will find an alternative if there is one.

There's been mutterings from a few airlines about product/service differences on the other side of this.

No complaints on here for a while ;)

If cost & on time performance are the key driving pressures in future, priority boarding may not feature in the new paradigm

I felt like I was in a traffic merging lane while boarding at ADL this evening...

I had a similar experience in ADL today. There were two people scanning and they boarded both lines simultaneously. As the priority queue was about the same size as the other queue (not everyone in the priority queue was eligible to use it, but nobody was turned away), I was one of the last to board. Isn't the point of priority boarding that the priority line gets priority?

For a while, Qantas was doing pretty well with priority boarding. But I feel they've really dropped the ball lately. E.g. it wasn't offered at all on any of my recent flights ex CBR.

I got priority boarding leaving SYD on Anzac weekend, but no one was policing the security line.

So many obvious non status clueless travellers clogging up the premium line, I miss the pre-covid days where they would check boarding passes before letting you join the premium screening line.

No priority boarding coming back from CBR but because it was a tiny plane and we had to walk out onto the tarmac, only one scanner.

PB seems very messy at present. Typical situation I find is a huge economy queue, empty priority queue and two people scanning. The only technique I've found that works is to be totally arrogant and simply walk straight up. The person scanning the priority side does not look up and acknowledge there is anyone in the priority queue and the economy queue people keep pushing forward.

Had the same in Brissy yesterday, both queues full with the cheap unwashed so I just pushed past them all and up to the front. My dear Aussie partner wanted to sink into the ground because he found that “do rude” but I told him that it’s Qantas fault for not policing and not ours. Fully paid J class ticket, seats 1A and 1C. I am not queuing up behind people from row 23, full stop.

That is definitely the correct way to consider the situation. The only party that should be embarrassed is Qantas, for putting their premium pax in a position where they have to contend for a promoted benefit.

We are quite relaxed about boarding when travelling in business class as we are mostly flying on an A330-200 between Perth and Sydney. My only pet dislike is when someone stashes their baggage in our overhead bin and then walks down the back of the plane.
The idea of getting on the plane first is of no interest.

SYD-BNE gate 6 tonight. We left lounge well after "boarding" was showing in the lounge. Premium lane was still operating correctly when we arrived at the gate.

A couple of weeks ago now but priority boarding worked fine SYD-MCY. Also MCY-SYD I think but with no lounge I pioneered the queue.

Fascinates me that when there is a crowd poised on the edge of their seats at the gate, you just stand where the line would start, and - bingo - you immediately generate a queue.

cheers skip

If you are travelling in business class you can afford to be relaxed about queuing, and spend longer in the lounge, because you don't have to fight for overhead locker space. One downside is that if you use F lounges in Dubai and are travelling Y, they don't let you board from the dedicated priority gate until most Y are onboard so you do end up fighting for space, particularly at the lower front end of a 380 where there is limited space.
