Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I wish the media would just stop right now with these articles, just a waste of time. A bubble is never going to happen. It's fanciful to think otherwise.

And then they throw in that stupid graph - which looks like we're experience 40+ cases a day. Which we are - nearly all in hotel quarantine.

Over the last 4 days there's been 120 cases. But the story behind these .... 112 in HQ, 8 "community" transmission - 4 on board a ship docked off Singapore (counted because they came ashore for covid test), 3 likely past infections from those who had been overseas (likely viral shedding) , and 1 local transmission to somebody (vaccinated) who went into quarantine to care for his positive mother who had recently arrived from India.

But the headline the uninformed see - 30 new cases a day - very unattractive for a bubble.

Just look at the depressing uninformed comments. And people on here have hopes that any International travel will be possible soon. Forget it!
Don’t worry Australia is about 90 new cases in the last 4 days, so not far behind/ahead lol

Considering I was denied attending a wedding last year it seems there must be more to it than that or some kind of double standard. Not one immediate family member allowed to travel to attend.
The interviewer asked specifically:
“So next week someone could still go overseas, go to a wedding and come back through quarantine?” asked host Tom Connell

“Yes. There can be situations, but maybe not to India at this moment,” Mr Hawke replied.

Maybe it's for those attending their own wedding???

If you think about the infamous Indian traveller recently, one explanation for his approval to travel might have been an arranged marriage (speculation here) , and the groom may have never even met the bride before the wedding.

A real slap in the face to locals who couldn't go interstate (a much lower risk activity) for weddings or funerals over the last year.
I guess the issue is that such people have to quarantine on return whereas attending a wedding in Australia doesn't require this.

If it is good for the goose it's good for the gander. I'd hate to think that an arranged wedding took precedence over any other kind of wedding.

As @mviy indicated, their family were refused travel to attend a wedding. Clearly others haven't been. 🙇🏼‍♀️

Have often wondered how these arranged marriages get approval for a spouse visa?

When my bestie from University wanted to move to Australia with her American husband and kids, to get him a spousal visa she had to provide all this proof that it was an established genuine relationship, including stat decs from at least 2 non family members (including me) stating why we believed their relationship was real. I found it hard to keep a straight face when stating they have been married and living together in the USA for over 10 years (i had visited them there many times, staying with them), have 3 kids together, a mortgage together etc, they also had to provide photos and correspondence, proof of family visiting etc.

Seems impossible for an arranged marriage to meet the criteria love matches need to? If there is an exemption for arranged marriages, hard to believe this wouldn't be being exploited as a way to buy residency.

Except when it has been required. All states have required residents returning form declared hotspot to self iso at home at various times. And Victoria, WA and Queensland also have from in putting returning residents who have been in interstate hotspots into HQ. So that could have been dealt with.

Agree. Except in that example it isn't always the case but up to each Premier depending how much they panic, but for overseas situations it's mandatory obviously. I dunno, perhaps it is a matter of applying applying applying after each rejection and hope that someone approves eventually. Seems very random.

But do you think its fair to deny people the ability to travel interstate to attend funeral or wedding without giving the option of HQ, yet allow someone to go overseas (a much higher risk travel proportion) to do the same?

No I dont. It's extremely unfair. And unfairness presses my button. Its why I am angry that Adelaide Oval had a full house for playing AFL (55,000 yelling people) but quiet respectful outdoor Anzac Day services that were ticketed were capped at 1000. Profoundly wrong on every level.

Never understood why, if 75,000 people were allowed at the MCG, you couldn't run a service, even a dawn service in stadium or other suitable arena (eg Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne). Cost too much $$$ I guess, but politically would have been a winner.

A step forward for those of us in the UK ....
Cool, in 2022 I can have my MYGOV App loaded on my phone to show my vaccination and Scomo will let me out of the country. What part of 2022 is the question.

Almost certainly no quarantine, as how do you control quarantine for half a million Australian's people returning per month from holidays/visits/work? On the other front how do you get Chinese tour groups to accept being bused into Holiday Inn for two weeks? Impossible sell if US/Europe/Asia all no quarantine if vaccinated.

Hence quarantine is ridiculous, especially when coming back in from safe countries and/or vaccinated. It just doesn't scale/work.

I think the Feds would have to be very careful about allowing international students etc. back at this point. It's the one of the few bargaining chips they have to play to possibly get home quarantine approved by the states later this year or early next year e.g. if you allow home quarantine for vaccinated travellers from low risk countries we'll allow you to bring in international students etc. into hotel quarantine, otherwise not. NSW would be a definite yes for this kind of proposal, one would think, and if they can bring their students back, pressure would mount on the other states to follow.

Good point. As would SA.

Guilty, I have about 1.1M QF points worth of rewards flights booked across multiple OW partners to different destinations in early 2022 and I am booked in for the jab :p Will these actually happen most likely not and MrsM is constantly stating ‘forget it’ it is not going to happen. I think she is correct but will not let her know that.

Yep, I agree and so I'm about to make my prediction of when international travel will resume: the 12th of Never.
You may be on the money but are you sure the 11th or 13th is out of the question. ;):)
