Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I cant believe no one else sees the hypocrisy in Qld closing borders to whole states because of 1 or 2 cases and requesting reduced international arrivals of Aussies but happily bringing in known positives.
My borders should never have been closed. Known positives are by definition "known" and manageable.

It would seem that there has been local community transmission within HQ in NSW. Though who infected who may never be known, though the strain may givea clue as to which family was more likely to have been first infected..

Seven returned travellers who were being quarantined on the 12th floor of the Adina Apartments Hotel in Town Hall were all found to have the same COVID-19 viral sequence.
The seven people were from two family groups who arrived from different countries and on different days.
However, they stayed in adjacent rooms in the quarantine hotel.
“The cases have previously been counted as overseas-acquired cases in NSW Health’s daily COVID-19 reporting. This classification will be reviewed pending further investigation,” Stephen Conaty, director of population health at the South Western Sydney Local Health District, said on Saturday.

Cue some ventilation testing at the Adina....

Did NSW do a ventilation review of all their hotels as well?

Clearly it got in through the ventilation.

Well perhaps not through the ventilation as in the ducts, (that is if it is ducted), but yes through air movement of aerolised virus. and most likely through the corridor. But also possibly through the outside due to balconies.

While I don't know the venue, but looking at the pics and room floorplans many rooms have balconies with outside access = airflow that can easily result in undesirable air movement due to pressure differences and wind. Having openable outside and doors means that you cannot know how air will move in the building. Air may be forced in to a room pushing it out into the corridor, or equally can be drawn in due to negative pressure outside.

The apartments have kitchens and so who knows where the extractor ducts go/exhaust to as well.

Maybe it was a locked interconnecting room and got in under the door 🤢

I don't know if they have them. Looking at the floorplan it may be that family suites are formed by combining a small room with a larger apartment.
.
You certainly would not want unrelated quarantining travellers staying in say 106 ad 107 or say 108 and 109 or 111 and 112. So presumably these are stayed in as twin rooms. Or the smaller rooms are not used.

I just had a read of some of the room reviews. and from that they are definitely using balcony rooms for quarantined travellers. They did like in general the bigger rooms..

Balconies great for mental health. But they are not a good idea for quarantine, unless you have separate cabins.

The air vents in all rooms are filthy the stovetop is dirty and the furniture has smudges all over abs hasn’t been wiped down. The fridge seal is cracked. There is a glass table that the glass top is not attached to the table it’s a safely hazard for my 4 year old. And then the mould in grout in the bathroom. Very disappointed.

I'm over masks in airports and on planes!
There's no domestic community spread and no superspreader events from either airports or on planes, so when will the relevant poindexter or elected muppet rescind the requirement? Or, like being able to travel internationally again is it just some far off 'consideration'?

There will likely be covid transmission somewhere forevermore, does that mean masks forevermore?

I don't know. I look forward to the day when we can live like we used to.

But for now, I am happy to wear a mask in airports and on aircraft. If nothing else it is a good mental reminder to maintain good hand hygiene and that there is a pandemic.

If the Queen can wear a mask and sit alone for her husbands funeral then wearing a mask while doing anything flying is a tiny price to pay. Even in Australia.

haven't they figured it out by now?
Human nature being what it is, there will always be situations where the virus escapes.

Isn't the real problem the significant number of people bringing the virus into the country with them?

How is that, given that people are supposed to be tested prior to arriving here? Poor testing? Fraud?

Both. They are having in particular a massive problem with people living in India faking their tests. It’s pretty easy to do.

Perhaps we should shut the borders to corrupt countries such as India then.

Wouldn’t put it past some leaders to make that decision but they will say it’s just because India has too much virus now, just like how the UK locked out Qatar.
