Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Every shopping centre must be immediately closed.

Equally a drastic statement. The guy could also have caught it on Xmas day lunch. No need for overreaction until you get a link.

Meanwhile Vic will just continue essentially with what is working well which is the two rings of containment method, including asking those who were at exposure sites at known risk times to also get tested.

Vic Testing wait times. Many sites currently minimal now.

But the call this morning for people at the MCG and Chadstone Boxing Day Sales will most likely see them push out again.

Testing site wait times

The following drive-through testing sites currently have estimated wait times of over 30 minutes:

Chadstone - Golfers Drive (120 minutes), Banyule Community Health - Greensborough (60 minutes), Monash Health - Clayton Road (40 minutes), Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre ( MSAC ) (40 minutes), Peninsula Health - Rosebud Hospital (30 minutes), Western Health - Melbourne Showgrounds (drive through) (30 minutes), Springers Leisure Centre (30 minutes), Western Health - Melbourne Showgrounds (walk in) (30 minutes), Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital (30 minutes
).

Testing times have now blown out somewhat, but overall are quite good. Everyone that wants to get tested today should be able to. Many sites are open late as well. Only one site is currently over capacity.

Testing locations currently in high demand - please choose another location

Monash Health - Clayton Road (Over capacity - no further accepted).

Testing site wait times

The following drive-through testing sites currently have estimated wait times of over 30 minutes:

Chadstone - Golfers Drive (180 minutes), Swinburne University (Wantirna) (140 minutes), Banyule Community Health - Greensborough (120 minutes), Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital (100 minutes), Monash Health - Carroll Lane, Dandenong - Drive Through (90 minutes), Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre ( MSAC ) (90 minutes), Springers Leisure Centre (70 minutes), Darebin Arts Centre (67 minutes), Peninsula Health - Rosebud Hospital (60 minutes), Hallam Secondary College (60 minutes), Wantirna Trash and Treasure Market (Wantirna) (60 minutes), State Basketball Centre (45 minutes).

This is possibly an example of outcome bias.

Without the shutdown, could 1-3 have eventuated? Possibly.

Without the shutdown could the cost to the economy have been much higher? Possibly.

The measures put in place have resulted in the outcome we have.
And this is possibly an example of attributing causality where only correlation can be shown. Just remember, every person who dies (of anything, not just COVID), drank water at some point in their life. I'm pretty sure that drinking water did not cause all of them to die.

Edit: to clarify my example

Many hours of my time in isolation have been used catching up with this thread, which is one of the benefits.

Another example of contact tracing at work: my sister had lunch at the city RACV Club on Jan 29. Scanned contact trace into hotel, then again to enter restaurant. She received an email from the venue a few days later that a “contact” (not close contact) of Black Rock group had used the gym there that day. She was advised no need to isolate as my sister was nowhere near the gym or their toilets, but good to see the system working.

It is a pain checking in within Vic and Tas, as you have to enter your details every time you scan the transfer. I can see that many people wouldn’t bother when walking in and out of shops 7-Eleven, etc. only restaurants and hairdressers where you spend longer. With WA’s app we enter our contact details into the app, so we only have to scan and go. Much more user friendly. And more likely to be used.

Paramedic one of two in WA hotel quarantine amid potential coronavirus PPE breaches

Are we at the point that we are locking down on the possibility of a single case now? Can't be far off given the past few weeks events

The SafeWA app is far and above anything I've used elsewhere. That said, I haven't used the NSW app so can't speak for that.

What is NOT in the news. My investment newsletter tells me consumer protection laws have been torn up, and banks allowed to be more irresponsible with lending practices - hey we have got to support housing speculation. But it is comforting that paying down debt and mortgages is strong for those who can. Cheating like that hardened my resolve to pay down my mortgage to teach the RBA a lesson, as my bank wanted fees to change or move.
Employers have asked if they can fire people who refused, or not eligible for the jab, in advance of the rollout. The sound of silence is deafening.
Meanwhile Australia's groupthink rollout by ages seems locked in, even though the vaccine companies have not released the numbers(AFAIK) that supports the decision, while the Oxford one has a question mark over some age groups. If Israel took measures to avoid wastage of vaccine, this means Australian journalists should pop that question sometime.

Norman Swan says it better than I could see NSW coronavirus cases emerging from hotel quarantine 'inevitable', Berejiklian says
Now if only policy was corrected in the face of overwhelming evidence.

There is a Tas Govt app which works like the WA one. Slow to be taken up though, and when I went to use it at the State Library, it didn't work.

Many venues don't allow access except via the app - you have to download it there and there if not on your phone. Definitely the way to go. But then you have the State Library which has the option for both (probably because of the 'older demographic' attending there :) )

Maybe no passenger on the flight because the remaining crew are considered close contacts of the positive crew member.....so agreed halfway house is let them take plane back empty..... as well as minimum safety requirements.
Was it a Qatar decision to fly back without pax then? I read it as the Gov telling them they could no longer carry pax due to one of the crew members being infected, hence my query as to why it's fine their close contacts are still "allowed out" into the airport to possibly go and infect Joe Public.
Maybe one of our airline staff can answer... but with one crew member 'down' maybe they don't have enough to cover all the exit doors?

Under normal operations there will be spare crew for doors given they need extra crew to cater for first and business class during meals etc. Under covid, with just 30 pas per flight, maybe they aren't carrying supernumerary?
See above, seems we're talking about a slightly different situation/reason.

The ACT app and the Service NSW app, only require you to scan and hit submit, then one more optional click to check out when you leave. Checking out is important for accurate picture of how long your exposure was.

The whole point of the official govt apps is register once, surprised to hear some require you to renter details everytime.

So last night at the Big Bash, SA Health authorities asked everyone who had been to Victoria after 21st to go immediately to the gates where their movements were questioned. Apparently a close contact of a Victorian positive person had said they were going to the match. Police eventually tracked him to a Glenelg Hotel where he tested negative but was put into Med Hotel quarantine for 14 days. We have gone mad.

Well you should love Victoria's double bagging formula (isolating for 14 days close contacts of close contacts of a positive person), which based on a South Australian press conference I heard, SA was OK to implement on Vic's behalf in respect of people in SA.

I don't know whose decision it was, but I guess Victoria influenced it because they would have a legal right to detain a close contact. I guess Victoria let them break isolation for the direct purposes of, and direct 'contactless' transfer to, essential work

I think it is:

Cases and close contacts of cases test and quarantine for 14 days.

Close contacts of close contacts test and isolate and quarantine until they receive a negative result. ie May only be quarantining briefly.

Since the two ring method was adopted in Victoria (which I think is not quite as HappyFlyerFamily outlined) all clusters have been brought under control in Vic quite swiftly. ie Kilmore, Shepparton and EPIC. Chadstone cluster was switched to this approach too, but only after the cluster was well established.

So far so good using this approach on the Black Rock Cluster. And wit this cluster by the time it was deployed the cluster was spread from west of Melbourne to North of Melbourne and all the to Berrmagui with various site in Gippsland. So a massive hotzone.

So mad, or just doing what has been shown to work?

The match was in South Australia. They had travelled from Victoria around 21st. The cricket was the least of their concerns which was played last night. So over two weeks later.
