Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

It is unclear whether the case is linked to the Parafield cluster

If SA Govt is to be believed all close contacts of the Parafield cluster have been in isolation for over a week, so either the student disobeyed the health directive or more likley was not identified by cotract tracers in initial enquiries.

More inconsistencies though, Queensland recoginsed NSW hitting 28 days without a mystery case a day before Vic. WA obviously counting any case even if linked if it puts NSW behind Vic. Southern WA is nice to viist over summer, but anywhere north of Perth is pretty uncomfortable until Dry season in late April.

WA is 'any case of community transmission' over 28 days not 'mystery cases over 28 days' so yes NSW is behind VIC on WA's rules.

So great we are one country right ;)

I blame the pizza guy.

Worked for the SA Government / CHO for a while ;)

Agree. It's disturbing.

Hmmm, St Mark ended up being lynched by the citizenry.

It’s a pretty disgusting reflection on the country where somebody is considered a “saint” for doing nothing more than locking others out of the state. I knew we were racist, but I didn’t realize we actually hated people from other states so much!

I don’t particularly care for people from Rockhampton, but even id feel it unreasonable is Gladys “slammed the door shut” to them for the hell of it.

Let’s remember... this isn’t Ebola. Now that Australia has dealt with this for close to a year, it’s insane that we’re so scared of a virus that, if kept fairly controlled, is extremely minor. The cure for the vast majority of people is still going home and having a bit of a lie down.

Breaking: Coronavirus case identified in Adelaide school student, SA Health says

A student at an Adelaide high school has tested positive to COVID-19, South Australian health authorities say.
  • A female student who attended Woodville High School has tested positive to COVID-19
  • The school will be closed from tomorrow "until further notice"
  • It is unclear whether the case is linked to the Parafield cluster
SA Health issued an alert at 7:30pm on Wednesday, confirming the female Woodville High School student had returned a positive test.

She attended the school "while potentially infectious", the Department of Education said.

Anyone who attended the school on Monday, November 23, has been told to "isolate immediately with all members of their household until further notice".

As any new case pops up they just have to keep also isolating the the close contacts, and the close contacts of the close contacts.

If done, sooner or later the transmission chain will cease. Asymptomatic spreaders are the wildcard that can drag it out a bit.

But this is what works as we have seen in Australia and in NZ too.

The virus was out without knowing it was out for a fair period, and where the people who were infected did not have a clue that they were. So there could be transmission to random people besides close contacts. And you could have an asymptotic link, and if so that may complicate things as they may never know that that were positive.

Just having to keep isolating anyone who pops up, ad two rings around them.

Luck plays a part too. ie The Vic truck driver who took off spreading the virus to two country towns.

I'm surprised that they don't bother to check where you've been - it's pretty obvious some people lie (I'm not thinking that about you though 😬
Probably different for a Tasmanian but as a Queenslander arriving in LST 10 days ago I was asked to list everyplace I had stayed in the last 2 weeks so answered the Sunshine coast and norfolk Island. Then said Norfolk Island because it was the only OS holiday we could go on.To which the woman questioning me said that's where we are going in a couple of weeks for exactly the same reason.

Rumour is both her and her father have breached self isolation and she had been regularly attending school
One potential lesson learnt then is that schools get notified of mandatory self isolation and then schools report breaches.

Agree. It's disturbing.

VIC has been through exactly the same thing. As has QLD with the South Brisbane gang

People unfortunately can lie.

Contact tracing is not a perfect science.

There could well be other chains of transmission moving around Adelaide and SA may have to move to more of a NSW model.

Or this could be the last chain that needs to be ring fenced with the third ring process and broken.

You just don’t know, you just have to keep going.

That will come out in the wash but if that is the case then I trust we won't get mealy mouthed reactions from the Police and Government. But to be honest I'd rather that was the case than a random occurrence in the wider population. It sounds like she didn't attend school from after the Monday when likely she got tested late Monday or Tuesday. With symptoms or possibly a forced test if about to come out of the isolation period.

Now reporting a link to Parafield (should be called Peppers) and likely the Pizza Bar. Did she work there I wonder?

Another nothing day in Victoria. One could lick every elevator button/eftpos machine/tram stop in the Melbourne CBD grid and contract everything except COVID-19.

But handy to know WA gets QR codes on Dec 5. So that would be the first possible date that they will realistically open to NSW and VIC.

And funnily enough if my maths is right then that would be day 28 of NSW run without any COVID cases.

I guess that means Victorian numbers are completely irrelevant then. Would've been good to know that before I booked a flight for Nov 30 to see the family.

You have to wonder why they are only launching this now, when QR codes have been in wide use in NSW since April and the NSW Govt version available since start of August. Clearly WA had no plan other than hard boders.

We are going to need to be checking into venues for a long time yet, even once a vaccine starts to be rolled out, many of us wont be eligible to get a dose until late next year, as quite rightly those in health care, emmergency services, security, elderly, immno compromised are the priority. Then they say over 65s and under 35s (as they are the spreaders) which leaves us 40 something office workers the last in line (unless there is some way to buy via private health insurance outside the goverment program).

Also since virtually all physical distancing and restrictions were removed months ago, its harder to get the public back to Covid Safe practices. Friends based in Perth and Brisbane tell me they havent seen anyone wearing a mask on PT or in the supermarket. Complacancy is ripe, and the biggest risk in WA in international arrivals and shipping, not a domestic tourist form Vic or NSW.

And given SA had several months of that thought, - you could catch everything but COVID - this is exactly why the Doctor at Lyell McEwin Hospital did a great job in testing the older woman with no fever etc. just a random cough.
