Hi all,

I know there's not many star alliance flyers here, but thought you might find this interesting.

Star alliance Round World fare increases from 1 Feb.

26000 mile fare will be increasing by $880
29000 mile fare will be increasing by $1000
Business class will be increasing by $3000
First class will be increasing by $4500

Ouch! Those are some significant increases, which I assume will be blamed on the tardy performance of the Pacific Peso over the last 6 months.

I dont remember them coming down by $3000 when the A$ was higher earlier in the year...

And don't expect them to come down again later if the A$ picks up (yeah, right, as if that is going to happen).

I will echo that Ouch ! thats a huge increase. I wonder if we see a OW increase also ? i hope not but you know the way these things work.

It's probably more that they've seen what OW gets away with and want part of the increased $ action.

Does anyone know if oneworld are planning increases for the DONEs, LONEs etc?

Also, how much notice would QF/oneworld normally give?

There have been reports on FT of impending oneworld product price increases very soon.

(Driven, in part, I think by the recent significant devaluation of the GBP against the USD)

No notice is required ...

OW changes seem to occur on the 1st (although have been a few on the 15th) from my memory.

Thanks - i think i'd better get the next DONE4 ticketed this week!

I would also but not the $$ atm :( its a trip in 2010 but i know the details already since i will have company on this one. Hmmmm i will have to think about that this week just in case its possible.

Don't forget that Star kept the RTW prices stable or had very minimal rises for quite a long time after Ansett vanished. In the past 2 years though, the ex-AU pricing for RTW (traditionally one of the best point of origin pricing for Star worldwide) has leapt significantly - probably catching up to the rest of the world whose fares rose in the post-Ansett period when the AU prices didn't go up.

So perhaps it's alarmist to assume that one world fares are going up soon ex-AUS?

hey all, the star alliance increase is definitely happening on 1 Feb, i got an update about it on Friday. I run a niche travel agency, RoundAbout Travel, that specialises in RTW fares, we are launching our website in about 7-10 days pending some final testing but as im a new member i cant post the link here but feel free to google it.

if u have a star alliance fare in the wordwork then i would recommend to get it ticketed before friday. if you are travelling to the following destinations then you really would struggle to swap your itinerary from Star to OneWorld....
- Canada, particularly regional Canada or if internal flights are included
- Eastern Europe particularly Poland, Austria, Croatia, Turkey and surrounding countires. OneWorld only have hubs in London, Budapest, Madrid and Helsinki and there isn't much coverage in between. Star have huge networks coming out of Frankfurt, Vienna, Copenhagen, Zurich, Wawsaw, Munich etc. If you like to avoid London [who doesnt!] then Star is the way to go.
- Northern Africa - if you need flights to and from Egypt and surrounding countries then OW will only get you into Cairo etc from London/Madrid so routes are limited.
- Southern Africa - again South African Airways coverage from Jo'Berg is much greater than BA/CommAir.
- South East Asia - if you need internal fares from Thailand/Singapore into Vietnam/Cambodia etc then again OW will not be able to help. They can only get you to the main hub cities of Singapore, Bangkok etc. Ex-Hong Kong using Cathay Pacific they will get into some areas such as Vietnam but it can be a longer and more painful way to travel than using Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways.

I can give you an inside tip about what will happen with oneworld RTW prices if people are interested? i received an industry update a couple of days ago which is an upcoming release for 1 Feb...
