Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Not sure if this will work for anyone else. When adding 1 bottle of Chapel Hill The Vicar at BWS it shows $22.50 then goes back to the normal clearance price of $37.50 when adding multiple. I’ve just cleared out 3 bottles at one store with 3 individual purchases
Worked, thanks!

Hi there jwag1, I wish to thank you for your post which led me to an unexpectedly pleasant afternoon shopping experience:

First I spent a while enjoying a lazy Sunday arvo cup of tea whilst I busily went searching through all the Sunshine Coast BWS stores to see if any had this item. Eventually I bingoed - a certain BWS showed it in stock and at the discount price. Following your advice, I purchased the first one individually - and not only did I get the $22.50 pricing, with my team benefits card ( I work for the group) I got a further 10% off - so it went thru checkout at $20.25 :) (and BTW I did this using a giftcard - further 5%)

BUT, when I went to try to order a second, suddenly no stock showing (initially it had said three bottles available). I tried and tried, but to no avail. I also then got a text saying my initial order was "subject to a random security check" and confirmation would come through, which it didn't. About 15 minutes later I got a call from the store - the young man very apologetic that they did not actually have any stock at all. A not unusual glitch I suppose. I was disappointed, but understood. Sigh.

Then he said they would happily give me a similar value wine as a substitute. I was very happy when he made it clear that this would be something at a 50% discount, not simply trying to fob me off with a $20 bottle, but would require him to get the ok from his boss. When I explained that I would be happy with any red in that price bracket, as I am building a collection, he asked me if I would be ok with a Ulithorne Unicus 2017!! For the $20 I had forked out, Yes!!

When I got to the store he explained that they had received a case of the Unicus by mistake, it is not something they sell. We both agreed that it was a bargain for me, and I left very happy indeed. I will put it away for a few years....

Apart from the great outcome for me, the interaction with the staff and their service-recovery was a very pleasant thing indeed. Well done BWS.

This the Unicus Under Wraps at DM for $29.90, if you can find a store/delivery setting that has stock.

BTW, whilst enjoying that cup of tea and bargain search, I also picked up from a different local BWS one bottle each of Hardy’s HRB shiraz and Parker Coonawarra Estate Terra Rossa merlot for a grand total of $35.55 (after 10% staff discount) Was all the stock they had - not sure which vintages yet – will find out tomorrow.

I post this in case these are available in anyone else's backyard....

Hmmmm.... as I only had the chance to grab one bottle I was going to cellar it. Maybe I should try it and see if I want to grab some via your linked offer? Anyone actually tried it?

Edit: It appears no stock via Dans under-wraps....
Yeah, no stock for me either, but that may depend on state/store/delivery address. The latest changes to the DM site have made it much worse and there are a large proportion of items in search results show as out of stock depending on whether you have set delivery or pickup or indeed for both in many cases. Just hopeless.

I bought some of the 2016 vintage a while back, hadn't noticed that it had ticked over to 2017.

The Dans site is driving me crazy. I actually like to feel a bottle before I buy it, but it appears that there is now no option to screen searches to what is actually in stock at your local....

And endless search result pages of "out of stock" :/

Yes...
I've sent them several complaints about this, no action. Incompetence reigns.

I saw some negative reviews on the Dans site just now - people who immediately cracked the bottle and were shocked to not be amazed.

I think a quality 2017 shiraz should not be judged for a few years yet :)

I don't read reviews of random buyers...
But it's not really an $85 wine, probably fair value at $30, based on the 2016.

For the record, I work for Dans :) But am near the bottom of the ladder - in fact if I stand on tippy-toes I can see above me, just above my reach the first rung :)

But am also an avid customer (I spend far more with them than I earn), so I might just use my internal position to try to get to the people who actually manage this. It is just ridiculous that perhaps Australia's foremost retailer of wines, etc provides such a tedious online experience...

Especially when they say "much better than the passion pop/bundy+coke I normally drink"

I do actually waste some moments each day reading such reviews. I love ones that when reviewing a $10 bottle of plonk say something like "I have only just started drinking red wine. This "XYZ" (100% shiraz) is a really nice blend, definitely one of the best wines out there".

Yes, you would think they would be looking to improve it to enhance the sale/float prospects.
Biggest, not "foremost" in any of the measures I use for wine merchants. But of course I buy a lot from DM when they make one of their many mistakes or curious clearance decisions, I don't think they make much money from my many purchases.

re under wraps

Yes, and it still has the problem of not showing all the Under Wraps options.

If you want to see all the Under Wraps then you have to view an Under Wraps wine and then click on “All Under Wraps wines” then you see 200+ wines.
