Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

95% effective after the booster shot, spaced 1 month apart. So that is TWO months, minus any health or old age compromised patients, nursing homes, chemo etc, too frail to have the shots. I have read no detailed information as to why most companies are doing booster shots, but is a good indication that its well less than sterling. Back to flying, I expect Australia's trading partners to start pressuring us to open up, because all that capital on the ground is killing the industry, bad. I don't see Clive backing down.

Singapore government now introducing electronic tagging for residents/citizens arriving who've only spent their last two weeks in low risk places (eg Australia exc. Victoria), who serve out their two weeks isolation at home.

But is electronic tagging a bigger denial of our "rights" than the lockdown now in Victoria which includes a curfew.
I do think a daily check on those in isolation or at least random checks and those not at home get the tags.Certainly affects far less people not to mention the 250000 who will lose their jobs.

Indeed, although Singapore did have a similar sort of lockdown for about 6 weeks - at this stage only once.

But in the context of this thread, the dictatorship allows its residents to leave the country, provided they pay for their quarantine and COVID testing on return as well as pay for treatment costs (or have appropriate private insurance) should they require treatment for the disease within 14 days of return. The dictatorship also locks people up in hotels who’ve spent time in other countries, except ones they seem Low risk, where they allow people to self isolate at home (from Aug 10 with a tracking device).

Australia doesn’t allow residents to leave, and locks people up in hotels irrespective of the country they originated from.

Some advantages of a dictatorship!
Or a country that doesnt have states, councils etc etc. NZ.

I'd do one check, early in the morning, and then two hours later, a second one. 😉

Or maybe give people the option of wearable tracking devices. Then focus resources on those whose tracking devices might suggest they are leaving their designated property, or refuse to wear one.
I would wear a tracking device if it meant I could quarantine at home (for free as well!) Instead of paying for 2 weeks in a hotel room!

And then the next day come around at lunch time, and then just before curfew.

Totally random times are best.
Agree, so therefore don't limit to before curfew. Anytime 24/7 (within reason perhaps 07:00a-11:59p) - totally randomly

I think Vic Health have been reading AFF because it seems like they have caught on to this now 😁. Or maybe I should say, caught up with us.

Well I've just printed out my lease, my July utilities bill, my phone/broadband bill and my last year ATO notice of assessment to demonstrate I ordinarily reside overseas. I need to return home to Singapore within the next week (to avoid creating tax liabilities for the company, although probably need to get home after 4 months). Currently booked to leave on Saturday morning out of MEL.

FWIW, it's also taking some time to read the laws, about getting to the airport (want to be there by 6:30am) or whether I can actually book some accommodation in MEL or have to rent a vehicle and leave by about 4-4:30am to get there. My partner has been on lockdown with his mother, which is further than 5km from airport, and not even sure she can drop him off, although COVID risk is lower than taking an Uber or Taxi.

There was some mention from memory, of being out of Australia for more than three months as the category to grant the exit permission.

Apparently they look at your immigration records over the last 1-2 years, and you need to have spent more time outside of Australian than inside. I'm on the cusp for 1 year (thanks to this stay), but easily make it over a 2 year period. Will see how it works out on the day.

Nope. That wasnt the case with him. He's only spent maybe three weeks on two different occasions overseas. The wording has changed in the email he received I think reflects his intent to stay overseas for at least 3 months. With him, his visa will be a working one for two years plus extensions. Additionally if the departure port changes he doesnt have to resubmit.

Travel as we knew it will never resume whilst tracking devices, or periods of quarantine, are required. Yes, some people will be able to accept them, but the majority won’t. Airlines will have no economy of scale, so the available seats will reduce to about the level of demand. Surviving airlines will be government owned or supported. Those that aren’t will be gone.

When this started, my prediction was domestic at the end of this year. International at the end of 2021. I was way too optimistic on both counts.

I hope he is completely wrong but fear he may be correct esp. if an effective, widely available vaccine is not available. edit he is probably referring to Virgin but I think his sentiments can be extrapolated to other airlines as well.
