QLD border declaration

But you could look at the other side of the argument and say the best way to cripple QLD's economy is to shut the border before it is needed on public health grounds.
May I just remind you that evidence given to the Royal Commission on Aged care is that 60000 people die in Aged Care facilities in Australia every year.

So maybe it is not yet time to shut the QLD border completely, but to do it if and when we start to see evidence of cases being imported into QLD from other states, and do it early.

It's immaterial, tourism is already hugely affected due to the loss of international visitors, students and backpackers. We take a further hit on that to keep mining, construction and agriculture going, all of which eclipse tourism and have remained largely unaffected.

Not too mention the value of a life eclipses a caravan park or a Coolangatta cafe's bottom line.

So we need to try and find the balance, that you don't hit the panic button when you see 3 or 4 cases from known sources, but you slam on the brake early when you see any sign of things going wrong, don't wait until it is too late like VIC. The earlier you slam on the brake, the early you could take your foot off it.

There is no black and white.

It might be best to wait until a day or two before your trip as the declaration has changed a few times recently. I live near the border and travelled across two days ago to take a horse to a vet hospital. A new declaration is now required since then.

Great story in theory but the economy is so intertwined and interlinked that one large industry like tourism collapsing has much broader impact than just the industry itself. It also crosses state borders, VIC is our second biggest economy and props up a lot of the smaller states, a prolonged recovery period there impacts everyone.... Its the world we live in now. So interlinked.

Queensland have now updated their Border Pass application.

However probably not a great idea crossing at the Gold Coast border in the next few days-predicting queues of up to 20Km to get into QLD by road.

oh dear I hope not. Driving up from Sydney tomorrow. I shall report back.

I’ve done the border pass online and it comes through automatically on email.

Did the family of five and accidentally ticked that my two year old had been overseas in the last fourteen so she got a pass that said she had to quarantine. Did it again correctly and she got a normal one.

Flying NTL-BNE next thursday... glad I saw this thread...I didn't know Declarations were still required after the 10th...bad assumption on my part!

I doubt it was that easy on the coast.
We are planning a road trip to NSW next month and already have decided to return via the NE highway.

Just passed the wallangara crossing. There was no lines. They checked the pass and the drivers license and waved us through.
There however was a gorgeous sunset

Welcomd to Qld, Pu Koh, have a great stay, and you chose well.

I had been watching the border crossings just before they reopened and there were obviously queues for kilometers at Tugun/Bilinga, Goondiwindi, also Woodenbong and even Numinbah. But none at Wallangarra. It's like the world has forgotten the New England highway. Pic is 5 km queue into Goondiwindi at 11.50.

Yeah there was hardly any cars on the road and it was a much more interesting drive than the coast.
We were headed to Toowoomba And the NEH’way was an hour faster!

Gotta smile at this notion of closing the borders.. there are heaps of unmarked and unmanned border crossings everywhere.

Originally there were a lot of hard border closures and limited borders with checkpoints, many not 24/7. In Qld some of the former got replaced with a system involving calling the provincial constabulary to get an access code. Not sure exactly what is in place as of this weekend but the access code was the go on Thursday. IIRC WA only had two open land boder crossings.

Cheers skip
