Does anyone know how this online border declaration takes place? We are due to fly to QLD on July 11 but haven't heard whether we will be required to declare prior, at departure airport, at arrivals airport, etc.

I’m sure someone will be able to help.

Well the borders are still opening on 10/7 so unless you are from Victoria or have stayed there in the last 14 days you are OK and shouldn't need a declaration.

I think everyone needs to declare they haven't been in either Victoria or the hot spots? for 14 days prior.

Where from?
Sydney

They are in different topics, in case people only see them in one.

You must have missed all the announcements. A declaration is required from every single arrival into QLD including QLD residents.

as a Victorian, the blanket declaration is a major disappointment for all non-infected travellers with plane ticket and accommodation booked for mid August 2020. would be more than happy to be tested along with rest (4) of family. Hate to think the damage this mandatory closure of the Q border is doing. Pity that their election is due later this year; might that have put the fear into their gov?

Well, I'm from SA and plan to go to Cairns in mid August but simply havent booked accommodation yet because no one really knows what is going to happen 6 weeks ahead. And yes, the election is important in decision making there right now.

according To the polling most Qld want the boarder to stay closed......

yes even as a Qld you need a pass and must travel within 7 days of pass being granted......and if you have had COVID 19 symptoms in the last 14 days (for example being tested - it advises you must quarantine at your expense for 14 days)

So what does a tourist need to do then because that declaration is as clear as mud!

Damage to what? Our tourism industry and everything associated with it? The damage is catastrophic. Wiping out with a pen stroke your biggest/equally biggest customer now that all the internationals have of course evaporated.

It really just should have been ban on the hot spot postcodes. What a mess. It also makes other state travellers nervous to book.

But hey there is an election here and she’s gotta win it, so being all tough and stuff is really important in the media if you have precious little else to offer.

I am very nervous to book. Flights are fully refundable award bookings so that's covered but I'm not booking any accommodation just yet. And the poster you quoted agrees with you.

Although desperately sad and worried for our tourism industry, I don’t blame you or others for feeling nervous to book to come to QLD when we make irrational decisions about our border.

I only hope some people take a chance with the QF ‘change once for free’ offer and lots of hotel operators are doing fully flex / refundable on pretty much everything to try and get people back here.

Yes the accommodation is refundable but for example on booking.com, there is a note stating that payment will be taken at any time! So then it's another bun fight getting it back if we have to cancel say, the day before. If we could pay on arrival I'd book in a second. So they aren't helping themselves either.

Have found many hotels are offering some great deals when booking direct - much better than the general discount travel booking websites and almost all are flexible Pay on Arrival. Win win for both parties really in the current climate.

As a Victorian, I can’t say that I’m impressed by the management of any level of this virus. State wide lockdowns probably made sense in the early days, but as the spread became evident, keeping areas with zero incidence of the virus locked down was simply posturing. The hand wringing over the appallingly managed quarantine, shows how little ability our political masters actually have. A quarantine should be just that. No exclusions, early releases, nothing. And no release without testing.

Refusal of a test should be treated the same as a confirmed case. In which case off to quarantine you go. But, if you refuse a test, it should be at your own expense.

As for Queensland locking out all Victorians. Well, I guess it’s their state. But I think I’ll remember the way this was done, and especially the language used by some of the politicians, next time I‘m deciding where to spend my tourist dollars. NSW has some nice spots....
