Mine has actually just expired, not rushing to renew it...is there rule as to how long it can be expired before it cant be automatically renewed? I dont want to start from scratch but dont want to pay for one I cant use for 12 months either?

You can use the streamlined renewal process for up to 3 years after expiry.

I hope to get to use it before then!!

But good to know the time limit.

@support can you please fix the spelling in the thread title - it bothers me every time I see it. TIA

No I don't have OCD - why do you ask?

‘Tell him he is dreaming’ is all I can think of. While the govt has introduced “job keeper” and other such programs also ask how many taxes have been reduced/ cancelled. Then go on to question how many AU business are asking staff to make sacrifices in hours or take a salary haircut etc. I wonder how many AU politicians have had to taken a salary reduction in these ‘unprecedented times’.

I know this thread was started/responded to with tongue in cheek - but really if one's biggest concern is getting an extension on their passport - smile and be happy. I'm more annoyed by the fact that a 10 year passport is really only "valid" for 9.5 years (due to the requirement of so many countries to have 6 months validity when entering - and sometimes from the end of your visit) - so of course you really need to renew at about 9 year 3 months to be safe.

Mine expires in 7 months, I'll wait and see what happens, I bet they will insist that to be able to renewal you will have to show proofs that you have been vaccinated for the covid 19 or any type of flu vax they make. I mean hey u cant see your Gran parents in a nursing home unless your vaxed, That in it self is against your human rights Just sayin.

And which 'human rights' do you think have been infringed? And where are they articulated?

With rights come responsibilities. If my mother was in the nursing home you wanted to visit whilst potentially infected because you refused a vaccination then I'd be upset. And surely you'd be infringing her human rights?

Please provide a link or reference to these alleged human rights that are applicable in Australian state or commonwealth law.

Some countries extend the validity of passports, but I’m not aware of it happening in Australia. The normal practice here is to renew passports. The name page and chip have the expiry date.

I will make sure I wont visit your mum, Im only there to visit mine. And to make it clear, Im not one of those who solders on, if I feel ill I always stay home, So not to spread the killer seasonal flu which by the way has killed 326720 as I type. GL

That is easy to find with a simple google search.

Perhaps you can point out the paragraphs that say this act supersedes the health act that allows the gov to declare a pandemic and exercise all the provisions of that act (which they haven't anywhere near used all of yet and been rather judicious in its application) . Given this act covers mainly sex, age, race & disability discrimination, not sure where your passport expiry date fits into the scope.

As you are so certain, perhaps share with members a copy (or contents of the legal argument) of the complaint it seems you may be lodging to demand your rights under this act.

Just in case you didn't get around to reading it, I'll include two sentences in the document you referenced
"This Act is not intended to exclude or limit the operation of a law of a State or Territory that is capable of operating concurrently with this Act."
"Nothing in this Act renders the Crown in right of the Commonwealth or of a State liable to be prosecuted for an offence."
