Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I see the Sippery has 10% off Oakridge wines at the moment. The 864 chardonnay sold out in a hurry but what I have noticed tonight is that they've jacked up the price of the 864 cabernet from what it was this afternoon. It was $62.40pb this afternoon and now it's up to $72pb. Bit of surge pricing, that's pretty poor I reckon.

Does anybody have any information on this? It is part of VC 6 for $100 deal. RRP is $50.
Terre Terre Down to Earth Cabernet Sauvignon

The only review I can find is Sam Kim 95 pts but I find his reviews useless.
So agree with you on Sam Kim! He's the new Halliday of inflated scores and then you have to add another point... I'm even slightly more on alert when I see a 96 from him than if he doesn't score it. Am I being mean?

Damn. This means I now have to scope out FC, VC and Dans every few days till June 30. I found more WB Platinum for $83 in VC but was told the 3 I picked up previously for $60 were a pricing error. Should have been the WB black. So can’t really complain....
Lucky you. My only VC in town gave me no confidence they'd restock any of the cellar sale items now they're cleaned out. Several items have been restocked at old prices. The guy said 'it was fun while it lasted'.

Meantime, has anyone had any luck at FC? I haven't bothered to check (though the adelaide wynn's black label price almost got me off the couch - but I just didn't believe $60 a box...)

FC hindmarsh Adelaide has WB black label for $60(plenty) and Petaluma for $40 when I was there last week.

But this wine looks like the next cab sav on from the 2016 terre a terre (for some reason they gave up on the French and went for down to earth). I bought that one on the back of some glowing praise. Great price and I'd buy it - for some reason it's not available in ACT. Booooo!

I have always held the opinion that James Halliday inflates his scores, but he has nothing on the cough from Sam Kim. Does anyone out there have a critic they actually trust?

Sam Kim also used to claim to be a 'consultant' rather than wine reviewer/journalist. I almost completely ignore Sam Kim reviews, but wouldn't say he's corrupt or anything like that - tastes just don't align.

If I had to name one critic that lines up with my tastes it would be Huon Hooke. Apart from him I often cherry pick reviewers based on wine style (e.g. Halliday for Aussie Pinot, ignore Mike Bennie for Vic Shiraz etc...)

The winefront team (Gary Walsh, Mike Bennie & Campbell Mattinson) are by far the winners in the Australian wine reviews.
Highly recommend.

+1 for these three, my tastes seem to align with MB more than the other two, I also like that there is no ponce and preconceptions with MB, he just calls it like it is. Case in point was his 95 score on a $25 bottle of Sauv Blanc from Orange recently.

Also, what is your read on MB and Vic Shiraz (too harsh or too sympathetic?)

the worst is LUCA MARONI every single wine seems to be 99/98 and it then sellers claim it's a 99pt wine.
I do like the guys at wine front, they are honest about their bias and a few of them often give their scores.

Him and Campbell always score Vic Shiraz lower than I would, I did a horizontal Grampians Shiraz 2017 tasting last week and HH consistently 2-4 points higher than MB & CM. Given the overlap between these raters (HH often rates for TWF) I put this down to a difference in appreciation for the style.

Disclaimer - this is all feel I haven't actually crunched any numbers or conducted serious analyses.

not a huge deal but wine that continues to impress my admittedly french pallet.
The EOFY pack from head. aprox $5-15 bottle discount on current rrp, only aged 5 years.

young gun is worth attention I reckon.
