I applied for this card back in October and was conditionally approved. I am still waiting.

I was asked to provide bank statements which I did. I was then told to go to a branch and have them call the the approval team and for me to not leave until everything was ok. I did...twice. Every time I message their official mobile number with 'Status' they respond that they are currently behind processing applications and that there was no action required on my end. I just called them and they advised me to go into a branch for the third time and have the branch call their team while I am in the building.

Never have I experienced such a dreadful credit card approval process, but it seems others have not had such issues. What are your experiences? I'd love to sort this out for upcoming large payments ;)

Planning to visit the branch tomorrow...for the final time.

I agree! I've never come across such a seemingly incompetent financial institution.

I applied for the St George/Bank of Melbourne card. I was not approved but didn't receive a rejection letter. I checked the credit scores and there was no reason for the lack of approval considering the eligibility requirements were not high. I called the personal lending number on the message on the website and got put through to 2 different teams all who had no idea why I was not approved. They then said to go into a branch. The branch staff member said it would take 45 minutes to set up a profile and then re-apply. I went in and the computer system was down. I just get a very weird and unsophisticated vibe from the setup so think I will just let the card go.

My son has an application in limbo in some foreign land despite me/us being told 48 hours and it would be YES. His is a St George one. Another phone call required this week......

Interesting to hear that other experiences have been just as poor as mine.

Here is my update:

I went into a bank branch for the third time as instructed. This time a different one. The staff member who could help me wasn't available so I was told to come back later. I came back later, explained the situation and told her that she had to call the applications team.

She eventually found out that I need to provide my bank statements (have already provided twice) and my last two tax returns. I am in the process of finalising FY 18-19 so will provide that to them when it has been completed.

What really irritates me is that I had to go into a bank branch to find that out. Why has no one told me that they wanted my tax return in the few months that I have been waiting for this application to get approved? Why do the calls and text messages say that I have done all I need to and then the bank branch visit says otherwise.

Utterly hopeless system that clearly needs a review. I will persist though as the card seems like a good one to have.

Tenacity100 should be a University subject.....my son just got approved after all sorts of problems.

what surprises me is how the branch would know, most banks and I am sure Westpac is no different centralises all operations, and branch staff are nothing but sales people. In some other banks, the staff would point to a phone on the wall and say "callcentre will help you"

The retail side of our bigger banks is a worry. They didn’t seem to be able to read and understand a tax return over at St George.

Well worth getting for a very limited opportunity once you get it and maximise its use. Mine took ages and has been very productive

Yes my favourite eldest son has had a fantastic run once he received his card. He was itching to transfer some Amplify points to Virgin after experiencing an A330 business class points flight with his partner. Fortunately he waited so he should get a nice 10% birthday bonus on his warehoused Amplify points.
That card issuing delay was quite memorable and compared with his Amex Ultimate application.....well that one went straight thru with zero delay.

I had a bad application experience too. Uploaded required info at end of the application, yet I still received text messages and emails telling me to upload again. Utterly incompetent. So I didn't continue with it to save myself from having to deal with them later on.

Can anyone please confirm what BOM or BankSA show up on your credit report? I read that it’s actually recorded as St George?

All 3 banks seem to be incompetent & require branch visits if they all use the same offshore processing centre people.

Yup showing up as St George on my credit report, despite not proceeding with the card :-(

Thanks for confirming Kyle, interesting how the application you make with one bank is shown as another on your credit file but suppose that’s the way also with the multiple Citibank cards.

Some applications seem to fall into a black hole. I spoke to a supervisor three times to get my son’s card finally approved. Mrscove thought I should give up but because it is one of the best cards going I kept at it. I really don’t know what country I was dealing with but they never understood what a family trust distribution was which was quite annoying. Finally I got them to remove the trust distributions and the approval was received.

I was considering a St George CC but after reading this thread, it seems it may be better to not have my credit report/score affected by the shambles that is their CC team. 🤷‍♂️

Mind has taken over a month. Finally got it approved earlier this week but it took about 4 phone calls and they’ve sent the card to a branch rather than my home 😬

What a hassle. So much for contactless delivery... AND you'd think they'd be keen on snapping up new business as efficiently as possible 🤷‍♂️

Would have thought so but I know Westpac are being smashed as are nab with any applications being processed.
Picked up my card on Monday without any hassle - was fairly quick and no hard sell on other products.

I think the Philippines handling the application was the problem for my son.

I've heard a lot of Australian outsourcing in the Philippines were given the option to continue working (and stay at a hotel, and not be able to see family), or to go home and not come to work. Many took the go home option, so most companies that outsourced to the Philippines have a lot less people available.. Not sure if that's still the case today, but it was my understanding a month ago.
