Qantas First Class menus

Had the Heisdeck Rare 2002 on SIN-MEL the other day. Delicious! So much better than the 2004 other thing they've had recently.

I won't admit to how many glasses I had.. but they did note they had 6 bottles loaded... :D

The Charles Heidsieck Blanc Des Millenaires 2004 is a little young still. 1995 is perfect!
5 glasses is a bottle. If you had more than 15 glasses (3 bottles and half the stash), that would be impressive.
Anything less is the pre-departure refreshment 😂

I always find it amusing (in a good way because I love doing it too) how in any other setting a $200+ bottle of champagne would be savoured with time taken to enjoy a glass or two over an evening yet when we find ourselves in an F cabin it’s a competition to guzzle it down as quickly as possible.

3 glasses is my standard pre-departure.:D

There are practical reasons for it.
The champagne can/will get flat quickly.
Nothing worse than no bubbles.
If it's warm in the cabin, the champagne will get warm quickly, too.

Crew were fine if occasionally absent (especially the CSM, other than a very token hello and goodbye). No top-ups of champagne offered (would have declined anyway). Pyjamas, slippers and the laughable amenity kit provided quickly.

Was queried if I knew I was requesting two starters and a main - yep, sure did. No salad offered.

It's clearly pour your own soup nowadays at QF.

Which would have been fine had the little jug not been scalding hot.
Fortunately the soup was very nice. Singed fingertips notwithstanding.

Prawns were decent but nothing special.

Beef was a poor choice on my part. Tough and overcooked. Was edible though, and everything else on the plate was nice.

The torte was good.

With 5 hours of the flight to go I was asked to confirm if I wanted to be woken up for breakfast - in 2 hours' time! I suspected a miscalculation by the FA but you never know. I said yes. As it turned out breakfast was done quietly and professionally, with the crew making offers through the cabin even upon commencement of descent.
I woke up of my own accord about 80 minutes out and with about 60 minutes to go was served. Had the egg and bacon roll again. This one was a bit better and full of bacon. No sign of the hash brown, however.

OK flight but I wish timing had allowed me to take EK.

I'll post about my arrivals experience in the P1 thread later.

We have our 1st, Qantas First flights in a few weeks. The photos and menus seem underwhelming compared to SQ, QR and EK. Is there the option to preorder in the week before the flights? Is that food more insperational?

No. But if you fly Business on QF you can pre-order. Go figure!
And spot on, the word 'underwhelming' is the perfect description.

What flight number(s) do you have? Daytime flights have slightly better food menus but the booze is the same and the booze is what I consider to be the underwhelming facet of the product. The bed and mattress are fantastic, crew generally very good.

QF 93 and 94. So day and night flights.

@kermatu re your comment about the mostly absent CSM from the F cabin: I find this de rigueur for QF (and EK when I come to think about it).
Definitely true on QF - and I wasn't expecting much during the flight, but the interactions on this one were so brief - I honestly can't even recall if the CSM was male or female! (In the past have at least seen CSMs help out a fair bit at breakfast time / bed clearing, but to the best of my recollection not this time).

Not quite so true on EK in my experience. Especially on the 777s but even the A380s the Purser has often served me drinks and stopped by a few times. Smaller or more lightly loaded cabins probably help. My most recent run up to SIN the purser was the one who asked me toward the end of my meal if I wanted my bed (or the vacant suite across the aisle) made up. (He may not have been the one doing it though!).
