QF9 has been pretty reliable since its introduction as a MEL: - PER - LHR in lieu of its former via DXB route.

AFAIK, neither it or QF10 southbound have had to divert to an alternate airport. The northbound QF9 has been marginally affected by changes to its flight path given the Iranian situation, and it apparently has to carry a smaller number of passengers at present due to this extra running time.

However, earlier this week, QF9 did not operate between MEL and PER, while today (Saturday 15 September 2020), it's been cancelled on both sectors.

Given its fares are typically higher than QFi's MEL - LHR via SIN fares (using QF35 then QF1) with similar applying to passengers from SYD or elsewhere, in such rare circumstances when 'the 9' (or opposite number ex LHR QF10) are cancelled, it may be worth approaching QFi or QFF as the case may be for compensation, often in the form of QFF points.

What's been the reaction of QF to any such claims by travellers?

AFAIK QF9 is cancelled today due to Storm Dennis which is causing havoc with flight cancellations in the UK/ Europe.
BA have cancelled at least 40 flights and the army has been deployed.
Not sure what QF can do about the weather 🤷🏼‍♀️

But QF1 is not, and yet it is scheduled to arrive LHR - despite showing as departing SIN at an estimated 0055 hours on Sunday 16 February - also in the morning.

Odd that 'the 9' gets cancelled but 'the 1' (at least not yet) doesn't.

QF1 does not have the same load/ weight restrictions as QF9. The flight time is already 45 minutes longer due to the Iranian airspace restrictions and I would think that they have no slack available for a delayed landing at LHR or a late diversion.

Isn't what you say further reason to cancel QF1 between SIN and LHR if weather is extremely adverse?

Was meant to be on QF9 yesterday. I’m a relative Qantas novice and was amazed at how cough their handling of the reroute was. Firstly, no reroute options given, just rebooked on CX via HKG. Didn’t want to go on this route for various reasons, so asked for SQ which would’ve got us in only 1 hour after QF9. Was denied because they only rebook on Oneworld, even for last minute cancellations!

Sadly we had just landed in PER from SYD when we heard the news, as we could’ve had a much more efficient reroute had we known earlier. Secondly, it took the sole poor agent manning the desk at PER three hours to rebook us on QR via DOH! Two hour phone wait as always and on the app messenger the rep. denied that SQ flew from PER.

I am no fan of BA at all but in my experience of disruption it absolutely shades QF, as does AA. Staff more empowered, easier to reach, more of them and more clued up as well.
