That's not a silly question. This is going to likely come accross as a silly question.
But if you book the seperate sectors, but its a transit stop (within 24 hrs).
Do you have to transfer checked luggage?
(is it the same even if its different airlines?)
Im looking at a europe then Canada trip, but will have my hockey gear, and dont want to have to lug it everywhere for a quick trip into a city etc.
I would also like to know in advance so that I can plan ahead.
Unfortunately I've not managed to find an answer online anywhere.
I've been advised to contact the airlines directly or ask at check in.
I couldn't find an answer for earliest bag drop times either.
Once I was en route from Durban to Perth via Johannesburg.
The Durban check-in refused to check in my bags to Perth as there was more than a 6 hour wait in Johannesburg. She could not guarantee the safety of my bags ( a real enough concern in South Africa sadly). I had done this many times previously with no problem but suddenly was told this.
Luckily a supervisor stepped in and the bags were checked through.
