Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I can't seem to get the economy one world fare of 132.4K for the below flights (comes up as 233,500 instead). My stopovers are Kilimanjaro, Moscow, Melbourne and Tokyo.

What rule am I breaking?

That's great! Well, I have learned something. Sorry for giving incorrect/incomplete information then.

It will be interesting to see how you go adding them to your Oneworld award in future - I hope that works out for you too. I will have to give it another go with Qantas if you can do it.. I've got two domestic JL bookings currently as Y in my otherwise all J booking right now for August.

Yeh I'll shoot you a message if I can get it done. I need to wait til the 27th of February before attempting to add it to my oneworld. Please let me know if you get it added successfully as well? It'll be good to know that someone here has done it.

Is it because you are departing Australia then coming back to Australia and then leaving again?

I think that breaks the rules

That's right. What should I replace DOH with so that I still meet the requirements?
You can turn one of the transits into a stop for > 24 hours. Or replace one transit with anywhere you like so long as you don't break any other rules.

Anyone had any luck getting award seats for Tromso (TOS) - HEL direct flight? It's an AY flight operated by Wideroe.
QF website doesn't recognise TOS as either a departure or arrival city.

School holidays, perhaps they're not releasing any seats.

That's a bit worrying...

I need to get back from Santiago in mid January.

If both the SCL-MEL/SYD or SFO/LAX-MEL/SYD is not available, how would I get home? I won't have enough miles to come home from Europe.

I searched on the AA website and found availability. But when I text chatted Qantas about that same flight and date, they said there was no availability.

I asked:

“ Can you please advise whether there is any classic award flight availability for 14 November flight AY945 from Helsinki (HEL) - Tromso (TOS) on Finnair? The Qantas online search engine does not allow me to search for destination of Tromso. Thank you”

reply:

“I checked the availability of the flights and there are no Classic Flight Reward seats for the route and dates that you wanted.”

It was the text chat though so not 100% reliable...

I had a good experience with the Auckland call centre when changing the departure point of my trip starting in March 2020.

Expected wait time was over 2 hours but was answered within 90mins. Was able to change flights to start from SIN instead of HKG in 4 weeks, had taxes manually recalculated and charged with the hour and new tickets issued.

They didnt give me the normal 24-48h timeframe for ticketeting.

Much better then the multiple calls previously.

I'm wanting to visit Havana in my OWA, however, HAV does not come up in the QF search. I can see that there are flights from MAD on IB and MIA on AA. Will I need to call QF to book?

If you already have an eticket for your other flights, then changes/additions are only possible by phoning the QF Call Centre.

Edit: HAV is a special case from memory. An AFFer has raised this issue previously, maybe upthread somewhere.

And welcome to AFF.

Thank you DC3, I did a little research and it does seem that I'll need to call QF to book HAV.

You cannot fly between HAV and LOTFAP at all (award or paid) as a tourist. It's part of the blockade of anything commercial.

So, if you manage to get into HAV on IB, you'll also need to get out on IB if you want to avoid buying separate tickets.

You may be better looking to get to CUN (or maybe MEX) and then buy CUN-HAV-CUN. I can recommend Interjet as a reasonable Mexican airline (good legroom in whY). It's only about a 1h flight.

This is going to likely come accross as a silly question.
But if you book the seperate sectors, but its a transit stop (within 24 hrs).
Do you have to transfer checked luggage?
(is it the same even if its different airlines?)
Im looking at a europe then Canada trip, but will have my hockey gear, and dont want to have to lug it everywhere for a quick trip into a city etc.

It depends. ;)

Many airports (even some very large ones), for example, do not have the facilities to hold checked luggage overnight.

For a simple transfer on the same day, same airline or alliance, on the same PNR, then it should be okay.

In any case, best to confirm when checking the bags in, if luggage will be through-checked.

If changing airlines at the transfer point, assume that you will be collecting and re-checking the bags.

Edit: And welcome to AFF. Also, you may be able to re-check bags in, then go to the city. However, there may be restrictions (such as 3 hours before the flight). You would need to check at the airport.

Thanks for the quick response, i found this place due to trying to do a multi city via qantas website with no end of trouble. Firstly the classic only 6 stops, secondly it only wants to show you whatever route options it wants to show you (even when you know there is others).
I think ill be in for a nice long call once my points clear so i can book :(
