My daughter has a reward J ticket from HKG to ADL with a transit in Perth. She has a J ticket with CX HKG-PER and then a QF Y ticket PER-ADL. Will she be able to access the domestic Perth Qantas Club if she shows her incoming CX J boarding pass?

Yes.

She should have access to the Domestic Business lounge based on the oneworld connecting flights rule as long as the HKG flight arrives the same day as the ADL flight departs or the ADL flight departs before 6am the next day.

She'll actually have access to the Qantas Business Lounge rather than the Qantas Club.

"Eligible if travelling on a Qantas domestic flight connecting to or from a oneworld flight in International Business on the same day No guest allowed."

Thank you for your prompt replies.
We were denied access to CX lounge in HKG when we flew J ADL-HKG(op up from Prem economy) and prem econ HKG to Europe. I didn’t feel I could complain due to the fact we got 5 seats by Op Up.

No lounge access for op-ups.

Note on Business Class lounges: Passengers offered complimentary upgrades to Business Class are not entitled to lounge access, unless access is otherwise available based on eligible frequent flyer programme tier (for example, Marco Polo Club Silver and Gold members will be entitled entry to the Business Class lounge regardless of class of travel).

@Spieck Moreover, the non business flight needs to be of 5 hours or less.

(I presume "HKG to Europe" represented a flight of over five hours.)

Yes - it was a flight to Rome. After being knocked back by cx lounge we were let into Qf lounge as of the 5 travellers we had 1WP and 1SG. CX were very strict about not allowing our extra child in whereas qantas lounge didn’t mind.

She has just been refused entry to both qantas lounges. Arrived 6am this moning on cx j and departing to adelaide later this morning in Y . She tried to reason and they just kept saying no.

This is so wrong.

It is not a Qantas rule, it is a oneworld rule.
@Spieck Send her this link and not the red part I highighted.

oneworld lounge access for First Class or Business Class customers
Indulge yourself before departure in a wider range of airport lounges when you fly First Class or Business Class with any oneworld member airline.
  • Customers flying First or Business Class have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. First Class passengers may use a Business Class or frequent flyer lounge if a First Class lounge is not available.
  • First Class passengers may invite one guest to join them in the lounge. The guest must also be travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline.
  • Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
    • First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
    • Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.
    • You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

I told her to tell them it was a one world rule (which she did)and they just got nasty and told her to go away. She won't go back now because she's feeling emotional and doesn't want to get teary in front of them. Quite disappointing when they don't know the rules.

Spiech - if you have the will power, it would be great if you could follow this up with QF and report back. While it won't help yuor daughter, it may just help others caught up in the same situation next time.

Yes - I have already contacted qantas via messenger letting them know they failed on this occasion but could they please educate the staff in Perth. They say they are looking in to it now and asked for her booking reference and flight details to clarify things. I’ll update to let people know how it is handled.

Thanks! (I love how they ask for a booking reference and flight details - whch are of course completely irrelevant!)

your daughter is over 18?

When they come back with their apology, I'd suggest asking for points by way of compensation. 7000 I'd reckon is fair given QF is known to offer lounge passes for sale for causal users (around $50 IIRC?) This values each point at QF's 'notional value' of .7cents each.

Yes - she is over 18 so eligible to enter. We’ll see how Qf responds.

Disappointing. Have used that rule many times in Heathrow with BA after arriving in business, departing a domestic or short haul Europe flight.

An investigation involves both sides of the story. Seems reasonable to ask for flight details to get to the bottom of what happened.

While I don't believe it's necessary in this case*, if you have a look at the Qantas facebook visitor posts no matter what the complaint, the first response always seems to be 'please send us your booking details'. Seems to be a standard response, maybe auto generated?

*the rules for entry can be established without need to refer to the booking details. The pax arrived in long haul J and was connecting to short haul Y. If a further investigation was required after that. booking details might be necessary.

Probably wise, although unfortunate.

I've been in similar situations several times. And even having a copy of the published access rules has not helped. The lounge staff have even admitted that the online alliance or agreement published access rules have stated that access is allowed.

But they stick to another set of "internal" rules that they say are specific for them.

Pressing them further just gets ugly.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
