Changi Matters

Is it possible to have a decent visit at Jewel during a QF1 stopover (T1, 1h 40 min) or is it better just hit the lounge or any of the small gardens for that short break? How much time would it reasonably take if you wanted to grab a few photos of the splendour, including waterfall, walk around and admire the place?

I would say - no

IIRC they have signage stating allow 4 hrs .... we spent about I hour there, but that was getting out of a cab not stepping foot off an airplane.

You have to go landside to visit Jewel and immigration can take ages and then need to go back in via security. So, no.
You can get on the 'people mover train' airside and go back and forth a few times to get a bit of an overview.

To take photos and have a look once there landside, I'd say 20 mins is a quick look only at the waterfall and take a few photos. You can start at the top and walk down the terraces.

IMHO Jewel is just SENSATIONAL - we spent 3 hours in there and could easily have spent double that time.

Such a huge range of retail and bars etc - SPECTACULAR is an understatement but crowded - if you don't do crowds well then it won't be for you.

It does so you can ride back and forth a couple time to look out both sides but it's not a patch on what a real visit offers.

I have a 1hr transit on a trip next week, so train will have to do.
Will explore properly with the family on a 3 day stopover in July with the family :)

So anyone utilised the check in features at jewel?

Flying J on EVA air, wondering if jewel has separate check in counters for classes? Otherwise might be really packed? Or quicker just to go to T3 first, check in and then walk over to jewel

so to answer my own question.
check-in is on L1 of Jewel.
here is a list of airlines that can check in early and how early, Jewel ECI Airlines

some are automated booths (IE Qantas domestic style) and some are manned. For us EVA was manned and there was only 1 person before us at -4hrs to departure.

ended up spending 6hrs at jewel, still not enough!

What was there to do for 6 hrs?

edit: that maybe came off negatively - asking because if a waitlist opens I'll have a day in Singapore and wasn't planning on even visiting the Jewel so to hear people are spending many hours there has me reconsidering :).

time goes quickly with a wife & a 2.5yo. :p
wife went off to zara, i walked around with the little one.
he made friends with the skeleton (Mr Bones from Kiehl's cosmetics).
he wanted to visit the toy shops, pokemon shop.
we people watched & saw the waterfall for a bit
lunch at din tai fung (10min wait to get table at peak lunch)
snacks at shake shack (5-7min queue to order, ~5min to get food)

still would like to go back and see the lights on the waterfall at night

Got reward seats via SIN (next year) and planned a 27hr transit on return at Changi with the plan to see the Jewel and wander the other terminals (havent done that for a few years).

It depends what floats your boat :) If you want to look at the waterfall and surrounding space, you can do this fairly quickly. 15 minutes. If you want to shop, eat, people watch, that can take you hours, obviously. I'm in the former camp, hence my '15 minutes, been there, seen that'. The general opinion of air travellers seems to be 50/50.

Thanks for this, I had been thinking about the possibility to use this for our Scoot trip back to Perth next month. Scoot are on this list so we can have a look around the Jewel and then get a good cheap lunch at the "staff canteen " in Changi before our 14:25 flight. We will get a 'meal' in ScootBiz but ----.

Depends what you like. You can visit Gardens in the Bay, or Changi Village for local food and a boat trip to Pulau Ubin, or East Coast Park for a bike ride and local food, or maybe Joo Chiat Road/Geylang Road for local architecture and local food. Lots of options for an afternoon, the last three being near the airport. You'll need to have a shower at the airport though.
