Qantas FF announcement 20 June - "biggest overhaul" in program history

Where can I read up on British Airways membership. I seem already to be a member but that’s as far as I’ve got.

As this was the biggest announcement in 32 years there is a lot of chatter about points, fees, extra flights and LTP.

Just a question - did QF address one of our most popular subjects “Fixing the Priority Boarding line.” ;) :p.

Lots of good reading on AFF!

Just wondering (wandering?) has any other thread of AFF exceeded 800 posts in <54hours
Maybe a QF DSC thread? With a new LTP target at 75K SC when the next open DCS offer comes along maybe we might get a question such as “I am currently LTG sitting at 29420 SC can anyone suggest a good status run to get me to LTP. I am time poor and on a limited budget” any thoughts. ;) o_O

Not sure if this has been discussed, but does anyone have an idea of the time frame they have to increase the award availability?
I guess this will only be for Qantas operated flights (not Qatar or Emirates, for example).
Currently availability out of Perth to Europe in J or F is virtually non-existent (unlike a year or two ago).
Of course I suspect this is more related to availablity due to Etihad no longer flying out of Perth & Emirates dropping one of their 2 flights per day.

I did some dummy searches as a lowly NB and I'm getting at least 2 seats in F on Dec 11, 13 and 14. Not sure if that's normal (I've never really searched the route), but given the notorious difficulty of SYD LAX, this seems pretty good.

@Pushka I just spoke with @JessicaTam at ADL airport, she could point you in the right direction (she's boarding her flight now). I just found out that the BAEC route probably won't suit me, as I need to take at least 1 international flight crediting it to BAEC. Most of my international flights (sparse as they are) areflying VA as I am generally with family and usign Family pooling. Back to the drawing board.

Edit: just refreshed my screen and saw her reply upthread . Ignore me

@p--and--t I think there would only be a couple - threads on previous QF FF program "enhancements". Let me see if i can find them and link.

Here's the most likely: Heads up about program changes. It had 1,153 posts in the first 54 hours and didn't have the run up of the first post being 48 hours prior to the announcement (it had less than 8) . But it was full of bad news to a lot of us so there was a lot of spleen venting...

Mr Joyce saw the humorous side when asked if Qantas' new exclusive club for top Frequent Flyers would be open to shock jock and former Wallabies coach Alan Jones, who asserted that the reason that Folau had been sacked was that a sponsor had intervened.

"We don't discriminate against anybody - other people may, but we don't," he laughed.

"Even Alan Jones is welcome to get Lifetime Platinum Status if he gets there."

*burn*

No, they will be mostly partners - new ones, Air France, KLM, Bangkok Aurways etc, and only on the existing Qantas codeshares flights.

I don't expect to see ANY noticeable increased award seat availability on Qantas metal, at least premium seats. Those that are there will cost more points.

Smoke and mirrors announcement.

I haven't seen any mention of the return of ATA yet. Maybe still to come … ;)

I can see points upgrades for international flights being eligible for all fare classes, but at a higher rate
this turned out to be true

Finally got my email from Olivia. I am a bronzer after all! My last chance for access to international premium seats is PointsClub; we'll see whether Joycey wants to stem the leakage of my points to SQ and VA. Sorry to all the revenue earners, but the airlines have very much turned it into a points game.

MY TAKE.

The changes ate largely about protecting the Loyalty Revenues that Qantas gains from selling points to businesses.

Clearly to me the angst from the average punter was growing as they found when they went to redeem their long horded points that getting an award flight was hard and that the cost in $$ was significant.

So the $375 million was under threat and so the changes are to make these punters happier. The value is still not good but it is better and if you believe Qantas more award flights will be available which is a good thing. How available will be seen.

For the more educated ffer if we generalise that they are mainly pointy end flyers while there is to be more availability it is to be funded by this group with a hike in point cost.

Qantas probably figures that most of this group were not going anywhere simply because if you live in Australia and are points aware it is difficult to not build large point balances (ie QFF is my least gavpured program but I still currently have 2 million points with them) but that the super low availability of premium seats.

For me the changes ate probably a good thing with a lower fuel fine, though not by much, if I can get 2 premium seats more easily thought at a higher point cost. Points are not much use if you cannot use them when and where you want them and this is a key reason why I jumped ship many years back. That and an inferior premium product which will remain the case.

As far as I know today's announcement was aimed at the FF program. I'd expect a separate media event to be called...eventually.....

I'm dumbfounded by the people who suggest frequent spenders should somehow be afforded some of the premium benefits of the Frequent Flyer program.
Given how significant the profit from the rewards program is, it makes perfect sense.
