Flying through OOL (Gold Coast) this afternoon, it occurred to me that this is one airport at which I give no toss about lounge access and other such airside facilities. Half hour ago I was walking along the beach (and getting sunburnt) but now here I am waiting to board the aircraft. Sure beats BNE, MEL and SYD to boot. What luxury! What joy! What pure indulgence! What a life! Give me pre-airside beachside access over a lounge any day!

Of course, now I'm ready for an ice cold beer after all that sunburn...

What other airports have easy, convenient walkable access to the beach? BRR (and BRW) come to mind, perhaps even NAN or St Maarten.

Not sure about other airports - I once walked for OOL to Tweed Heads as I had little better to do, but took a cab back and hit the lounge for another hour or so.

Is there an extra cost at OOL to not be infected with sand?

You could always swim in the Cook’s River while in SYD; if you grew an extra arm, it could be very utilitarian!

Good question. HKT and DPS are both close to beaches. Elsewhere SAN (San Diego) has a beach, of sorts, just across the road and in Europe I could think of Nice and Tivat (Montenegro) Airports.

Unfortunately they don't like letting people off and on at that end

Unless it's an emergency evacuation in which case the beach will be the last thing on people's minds...
