10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

If nothing else, Amex have reduced their cost by delaying the posting of bonus points. If bonus points aren't processed until at least October, then those who wanted to transfer them to SPG may find it is no longer worthwhile at the 1000:330 rate. If this isn't anti-competitive conduct, I don't know what is.

Conversely people may now hold onto the points and transfer to KrisFlyer which may in fact cost Amex more...

The problem is that Membership Rewards have already set a "precedent" by providing bonus points instantly.

I don't think so, it said "allow" that long not "will not post until".
I'm in the same boat as you but I always go by the T&Cs of any promo I enter.

I doubt that this is the reason that points aren't flowing at the moment. With the rule changes in the T&C they will have needed to implement these changes in whatever engine they use to work out the points to apply.

I am certainly hoping that the fate of transactions post 24 Sept is in this bucket, as I don't really see anything that can allow them to not include those transactions.

On FlyerTalk, there is now a 'secret' list of members who are emailed when there is a great promotion out there, .

I believe that is rumoured - but thus farI see it only as 1 person who keeps bringing it up!

For those having difficulties accessing the Amex site, here are the revised T&Cs:
Membership Rewards Everyday Spending Bonus Points Offer

The Everyday Spending Offer provides Cardmembers who received the invitation in the mail to participate with the opportunity to earn bonus points for simply using their American Express Cards for their everyday purchases.

Please find below all the information you need to know about the offer.

If you tried to enrol in the offer in the last few days you would be aware that we have had a few operational issues which prevented new enrolments. The offer proved to be so popular that we needed to redirect additional resources and review our processes to meet the unexpected demand. Unfortunately this required us to suspend enrolments for a short period. We apologise if this has caused you any inconvenience.

To ensure that as many Cardmembers as possible could benefit from the offer we have amended the terms and conditions to better reflect the original intent of the offer.

Interesting.

I have highlighted in red the parts where I would estimate that Amex is spinning rather than indicating what actually occured.

What actually occurred was in IMO likely to have been quite different..and their reasons for acting quite different from what they have said.

LOL. You think they are spinning? What are they going to say? We really st*ffed up and now are trying to minimise the damage.

I have several friends that signed up, that didn't receive the postcard.

They are all very interested to know if they are still eligible for this promo as they registered on the 18th of Sept.

For those that want confirmation of the new, and what I believe are illegal Terms & Conditions.

http://www.americanexpress.com.au/myreward

Before anyone jumps down my throat about the illegality of these changes, maybe a google search on ACCC & DFT cases regarding retrospective changes to T&C's may help.

Had Amex have said the new T&C's come into effect today, or the day they suspended the program (to which I believe was the 24th or 25th) then there would be no issues at all. Regardless who provides the information, a CSO, supervisor, manager etc, they are all representatives of the comapny in question.

Whilst I have a promo card, Amex did also offer the same offer via there homepage as screenshots show earlier in this thread, so what happens to those cardholders???

Some honesty and integrity would be nice from Amex, but I doubt that will occur until things are taken further.

From this line:
The amended terms and conditions apply to all Cardmembers who enrolled in the offer from Saturday, 20 September.
I would think yes, but ...

This is probably the most interesting read in regards to what Amex have done in this instance:

Misleading & deceptive conduct

There is a very broad provision in the Trade Practices Act which prohibits conduct by a corporation that is misleading or deceptive, or would be likely to mislead or deceive you.

It makes no difference whether the business intended to mislead or deceive you—it is how the conduct of the business affected your thoughts and beliefs that matters.

If the overall impression left by an advertisement, promotion, quotation, statement or other representation made by a business creates a misleading impression in your mind—such as to the price, value or the quality of any goods and services—then the conduct is likely to breach the law.

I think redirection of resources and review of processes is exactly what did occur!

wow... not reading this thread for half a day and BAM!

anyways...

like most of you i haven't received bonus points since the 24th (and i believe they dont accrue MR points over weekends.

I registered on the 16th so hopefully (as i mentioned before) my T&Cs have been grandfathered so i still get unlimited points per month. (have 3 supp cards coming!)

i believe AMEX have been cross checking what DM people were sent and amending those who registered to the correct points scheme. FYI, i went from 5k per 5trans to 10k for 10...
very obvious when drilling down on the MR site and seeing 5000 point bonus at teh start changing to 10k for 10.

No doubt though the new 10k point cap is miniscule compared to what can be achieved its still a nice bonus.. but i doubt it will be enough for people to go over and above to ask if a merchant takes amex...

almost forgot.. i haven't seen anywhere where its confirmed for these 2 points.. (please assist if they have)

1) people who registered before the 20th have been grandfathered and have no points capping? (regardless of targeted DM or not) [doesn't affect me as i was but still had mates who didn't)

2) People who didn't have a DM will be deemed ineligible no matter what side of the 20th they registered?

I could only give my interpretation. Probably best to go back to post #1287 and read the new T&Cs.

My reading of the new T&C's is that anyone that registered BEFORE the 20th has the original uncapped, anyone can register promo.

If you registered after on or after the 20th, read the new T&C's which is the 10k points capping.

That is my reading of it, YMMV of course

yea i had the same impression too :) good to see that they at least honour the early adopters ;)

shame for the legit people that were away from home and who had a targeted DM will miss out on the old T&Cs ;)

BTW guys.. Luisa M from AMEX is the VP of Public Affairs not Marketing. :p

Just spoken to Amex.
Due to apparent fraudulent activity, the bonus points will now only be credited 8-10 weeks later, and not immediately.

Presumably, this is to give Amex time to suss out more fraudulent activity.

Anyone with more updates?

Now is this a CSA who knows what they are talking about, or one who is making up more stuff (ala other CSA's who are confused)?

"Fraud" is a very strong word to be flicking around. Amex better be pretty sure what they are doing.
