Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Seriously, I think everyone needs to calm down and relax. Whatever the offer happens to be, regardless of the number of points given, we should be happy.
Also, everyone should just stop ringing amex and harassing them about the specific number of points the individual offer gives them. 10k for 20 transactions, or 5k for 5 transactions, or whatever else. Either one is still a generous offer.

This post is getting weird

:(

See many people explaining themselves and showing reasons why they should be allowed to eard unlimited Free points. Others even aftern knowing Amex will take action on this mater refuse to understand the reality of the situation and keep arguing that 1000 points for $2 shopping is correct.

What do you think will happend with the Reward providers. The QFF program will become a laugh (SPEND 100 x $2 in shopping and get a Free Return Air Ticket to USA) Com'n.

The example given by Amex for the MYREWARD promotion was an indication of what type of trasactions will count for points. The offer in the section named SEE HOW YOUR MONTHLY SPENDING CAN BRING YOU BONUS POINTS

Eg 4 x Shopping (1 per week) 4 x Petrol (1 per week) Monthly Phone Bill etc

Keep an eye on that example Cos I think the final Fix and interpretation of the promotion will come from that Example. If we get 40K in BONUS points for just doing shopping is a GREAT GIFT ALREADY

People come back to earth... If you wana earn 500,000 points then get a Home loan with the Macuarie Bank and If you borrow about $700,000 in about 5 years you will make 500,000 points....

The quickest and cheapest way to earn FF points Was and is and will always be Flying (thats why is called Frequent Flyer program). But even then you have to fly many miles to get 500,000 Points... And those Mile must be done on purchased Tickets Cos Flights purchased with FF points do not Count.

There is not such a thing as GET A FREE ROUND THE WORLD FARE by shopping at TARGET and KMART 100 times aweek...

This has got nothing to do with QF at all. There are other frequent flyer programs available which you are able to transfer MR points.

Rodgerbrance: You really don't read what people say do you ? So I have made some simple points for you :)

1. AMEX didn't specify the min transaction value for each "eligible transaction". If I decide to purchase a drink and pay via AMEX that should count.

2. Why do you ALWAYS talk about the Qantas FF program ? Not everyone is going to put their points towards that program

3. Who cares about the example given on the website, that example is simple an example and not a true representation of all users.

4. AMEX are not going to point to that example and say you need to follow that or you won't get points.

5. Yes 40k in points is nice, but not was was offered on the postcard, it clearly said UNLIMITED

6. You said "The quickest and cheapest way to earn FF points Was and is and will always be Flying" - Nope not correct I charge many thousands of business expenses to my AMEX which I don't personally pay for and I get free flights out of it. So no need to fly to get free flights.

7. You said "QFF program will become a laugh (SPEND 100 x $2 in shopping and get a Free Return Air Ticket to USA) Com'n" - The Qantas program has pretty much always been a laugh with its high points needed for travel. Many other better programs out there, but for those they fly to the USA alot Qantas still has the edge.

8. You said "There is not such a thing as GET A FREE ROUND THE WORLD FARE by shopping at TARGET and KMART 100 times aweek..." - How is that so ? I could spend $1,000 a month at these shops and have a free trip in a few years

Once again this is not all about Qantas!

WTF!! Thank you for that information. Who would have thought eh?

This is a frequent flyer forum. I suspect that your knowledge of frequent flyer programs is but a drop in the ocean compared to the expertise on this site.

I think you may be trying to teach your grandmother to suck eggs.

1) Well Thats no Cheap... not a $10 fuel top up for sure... I know it doesnt cost you a Dollar but it is still $xx_xx_X for xx_xx_Points

1) Well Thats no Quick...
And My example with the QFF is because It is one of the most effective ways of excahnge points for services $$$ per Point ... Now if you find a better one then the problem is worst cause Amex would be giving even more Free $$$ ...

I understand that promotions are supouse to give Free thing to atract customers.... But here we are talking about Points that would be worth 1000's of dollars in rewards for nothing else but chaging a once a week shopping to a 20 times a week in small amounts shopping. Even more I ear people asking if the can Ebay or Itune to get points so they spend cents and get a transaction....

Re: Where is the TERMS AND conditions disclosure statement ???

 If the offer is so vague and the word NO CAP is used then I guess the ACCC and the Ombudsman will be interested in having a look if Amex customers go nuts buying thing (big or small) and get NO POINTS.

Well Rodgerbranch certainly seems to have changed his tune since his first post above.

Must be an Amex double agent .....

All the arguments are missing the point ......

Regular AFFers: No point to argue such things. Should just ignore them ..

Admin: Is there way to actually suspend people in the forum? You may need to add this feature quickly. Lots of forums have such features.

This thread is completely out of control .... Which is sad because it all started off so well.

Re: We will have to wait and see then

Virgin Blue
Virgin Atlantic
Singapore
Starwood

Oh no amex is giving away more free $$$ argggghhhhhh

Thought I would give IT one last chance, but once again read points 1/2 of my reply and then gave up :)

Yes people can get suspended/banned!

Ignore just minimises the post, but I have now taken advantage of that feature.

Nothing else to add really - We all need to wait for the likely dreaded letter in the mailbox and then this thread will explode again!

I like several others have just come back and seen this flurry of posts.. If i can add my 1000 MR points ;)...

  • 40k seems a small amount considering that many of us would get that in less than a month with current normal spending (i average 80-100 per month without trying). Also remember some of us rack up $50,000+ of purchases per month. So Amex would have known about this already, before launching this promotion. You think they aren't stupid? Look at the 10 bonus points last year at DSE....
  • It's the weekend, seriously, decisions like "capping" wouldn't be made on a Friday night, and certainly not on the weekend! I think people are panicking.
  • the MR updates have been sporadic, but there will be people who by Tuesday who will know if they have broken the 40k cap.
  • As mentioned, it has nothing to do with QFF!
  • The idea of the promotion is to get you to use your card more - i'm certainly doing that - and like most people ligitimately (ie. use it instead of Visa/Cash)
  • Safeway/Coles have NEVER said to me there is a minimum spend on the card. There is no signage anywhere either in store and normally there is.
I think people need to take a deep breath and calm down. Just wait a couple of days and see what happens.

Nick

I stand by my words

Well Rodgerbranch certainly seems to have changed his tune since his first post above.

Hey .. this not war between us friends... I stand by my first posts... May I say that by then no one Knew what the CAP and Max Min conditions were... What I was saying and keep saying is that an Unlimited Points offer is unrealistic... It was many posts after that the 40,000 points caps was disclosed... Evenmore .... I think my first post were before the Agent for Amex Posted that there will be tough check for Abuse... and that Bill spliting wouldnt Count....

I always prefer to know what the deal is so dont get dissapointed at the end... I can see some poeple here will be upset when the promo terms are posted to them nex week. Or when their points are canceled.

Re: We will have to wait and see then

1) Well Thats no Cheap.......

Me thinks you should go and read some other threads first before making categorical statements which are clearly wrong..

Well the cheapest way to fly...is to fly for free and thanks to what I have learnt from reading this excellent forum..that is exactly what I have done.

Now yes I have earnt points through CC spend, flying, car hire, etc etc.

But I have also gained points FOR FREE.

With FREE points earnt via Amex I have redeemed in one airline program and I have already taken my family of 5 to New Caledonia with free flights (though I did have to pay the taxes.)

I have also earnt FREE points without any spend in programs in THREE Airline Programs.

Not yet used there are enough points in TWO of them for more free flights.....and with one enough points for two Business Class seats to Tahiti return (only cost being literallya few minutes on several occassions to complete some electronic surveys/forms).

In addition to FREE points on AMEX in have also earnt enough FREE points on Earth fora Domestic return flight.

So all up in just a few years I have gained for free 5 economy Interantional Flights, two Business International and say two domestic (though I will use the points instead towards an interantional flight).

That is just the freebies..

On top of that there are points earnt when I have actually had to spend a $ ;)

You may, but you would be wrong.

Whether Amex chooses or not to alter the T&C is another matter.

But the initial ones were clearly no minimum spend, and no maximum point earn.

So we all knew. And Amex knew too, even if perhaps they did not realise the implications of their offer. But then maybe thay just wanted to inducea mega-change in use of the Amex Crad. If so then I dare they are achieving their goal.

I am certainly using the Amex Card in stores that I have not shopped in before.

I still don't believe this 40,000 "cap". Nothing official on the AMEX site either about it. think about it this way - that's only 40 transactions.. Not a lot. i think people are working themselves into a lather here for no reason at all.

This thread has became so... pointless.... yet so addictive! It's like watching an episode of Seinfield.

There's Kramer (those panicking of the points cap) "It's freaking me out!".
Seinfield (those playing cool just waiting to see what happens)
Elaine (those patient enough to be still doing the explaining)
Costanza (Mushroom Man)
and of course, Newman (AMEX? LOL :)

No offence intended for anyone - just found it really funny.

Btw I just realised that I'll be doing my DONE4 in Nov/Dec, which means most of my spending would not attract bonus points anyway.....

I agree with your analysis of what rogerbanch is saying but are you seriously suggesting banning people because you disagree with their views.

In none of his posts has he used threating or abusive language or made an inapropriate suggestion or tried to solicit a financial advantage - the usual things that users get banned for on forums. Of course as a new user perhaps I should be quiet as well or someone will suggest I get banned.

Hi Bill,

Unless you can convince Luisa that Christchurch is in Australia, I don't think your transactions count:
Just keep in mind that according to the T&C's it's only spend within Australia that counts - so don't go too wild with the Amex over there in Christchurch. :D
That's life :!: I have not logged on at length to fully follow the T&C at this stage.

Suffice to say that it has not affected my spending on this trip so I don't have an issue like a few other seem to have.

I'm pleased to see the voice of reason has spoken (aka Luisa) via admin. Exactly what the majority probably expected to hear.

I'm sure Amex's exception reports will be reviewing the transactions very closely and I'm sure they will have worked out what's acceptable spending patterns and what is not and then apply the rules accordingly.
Lindsay Wilson,

Unfortunately from what I'm now reading there are some out there who still don't get it :!:

Pity to spoil something good with petty bickering. There are a few who really need to look back at their posts and have a serious rethink :!:
