Apology if my question is covered in another thread ….

I want to know about gaining access to the F Lounge in Sydney PRIOR to the 3 - hour check in time …

From other threads, it seemed, that some respondents were saying that you can get into the F lounge 'early' …

Today I called QANTAS ( and was transferred to the "specialist" QFF team to address my question ) …

Their ONLY advice was, to follow what is on the website ….

That there is no method of gaining access to the F Lounge PRIOR to 3 hours before the flight. You need a Boarding Pass (BP) which will only be issued when the check-in counter opens at the 3 hour mark.

Is this actually the case ?

If anyone definitely knows how to get the BP early … please advise exactly what needs to be done …. because QANTAS advisors don't know !!!

Yes, at SYD airport check-in opens from 4.30am and the F lounge at 5am, so you could really make a full day of it if you wanted.

Mate, I'd love to know exactly what you are referring to …

Because I've called QANTAS, and they say there is NO WAY of getting into any International Lounge PRIOR to the 3 hours prior to departure.

Were you just making an assumption ? ( but you didn't really know ?? )

Yes there is a way as Qantas have all day check in at Sydney airport (as has been previously mentioned). I have personally checked in much earlier than 3 hours before a flight and headed straight to the F-Lounge with no issues.

This advice is, of course, bollocks. Besides the all-day check in:

If you are hand-luggage-only, you can check-in on-line prior to 3 hours and get your BP at home, so could access the lounge with BP >3 hours in that case.

Also, if you have a flight in from, say BNE early in the morning for an international flight later in the day, and have your on-wards BP, then again, you will have the BP > 3 hours prior.

Ok, that's what I was hoping to hear …

Is this a 'secret' with QANTAS ? Why wouldn't they admit to this over the phone ?

Did you check-in luggage, get a BP, and THEN go 'airside' to get into the F Lounge ?

What should I be looking for ? Is there a particular counter number ? Or do I go to a QANTAS Service desk or something ??

The one thing you need to learn is that some Qantas personnel have no idea and people on here know more than they do. There is nothing special just check in when you arrive, get your boarding pass and go.

Connecting flights are frequently booked with a longer transit in order to experience a longer time in the Lounge especially SYDNEY which can be fraught with delays. I have no idea why Qantas are saying that.

If you are flying first/ are a WP or above member then go to the normal F desks and check in as normal. QF presumably said 3 hours as most other airports only allow immigration access within 3 Hours or so of departure (or during transit it’s any length as you are already airside)

Who do you recommend I phone … to confirm this ? ( someone / desk at International terminal ?? )

I don't want to rock up EARLY with check-in luggage, to find I can't check it in until 3 hours before the flight … especially if I get to airport 8 hours prior to flight.

See Fergo747's post subsequent.

And not making an assumption and I do really know SYD has all-day check-in - used it many times myself to check in in the morning for a flight departing only later in the afternoon.

Not "connecting". I didn't say that …

QF1 SYD - SIN ( thus, flight starts in Sydney )

Not a secret - clear as day on the Qantas web site: link

The First check in counters are located at the end of the northern side of check-in counter D.

Ok, where is "all day check-in" ?
What am I looking for ? ( a QANTAS desk or generic desk )
And we are talking about Sydney International Terminal ( T1 ) … aren't we ?? ( I know about getting into Domestic QCs )

Already been confirmed by several people here. Not sure why you aren’t listening.

Sydney T1 international airport guide | Qantas:
First, Platinum, and oneworld Emerald passengers can access the First Check In Suite located at the end of the northern side of check-in counter D.

Thanks for posting the link. I had a good look through it, and I still do not see a definitive 'time', when a F class pax can proceed through Customs to the 'airside' ( in order to access the F Lounge et al. )

Sorry, but it's NOT "clear as day" …

What I see as promising, is the reference to being able to check-in up to 24 hours in advance from your flight …. ONLINE ( not at airport ).

However, this does not necessarily mean, that you can check-in your luggage during that 24 hour period.

Looks like I'll take my chances, and get to the airport mid-morning. If I can check-in my luggage, having checked-in online, then I'll be right to head up to the F Lounge for a 6 - 8 hour visit.

Still can't understand the reluctance by QANTAS phone staff, to tell me this ….
