I normally use my points to fly Mrs_Gimlet around Australia for her meetings and conferences as she works for a charity.

In a rare case of preplanning, I am looking at using points for Melbourne-Jakarta via Sydney. No problems checking dates and availability etc, but I see that the fees and charges are over a hundred bucks more for business compared to economy. I had a vague recollection from previous bookings, especially Australian ones, that the charges didn't change.

And to confuse it more, looking at Denpasar to Melbourne, the difference is only about ten dollars which could even be my calculating error.

Are there extra Sydney departure charges for business class passenger handling vs economy? I can't find much more info than the amounts.

The difference is with Qantas' own carrier-imposed charges. There is a flat $14 for flight for domestic flights, but for the Sydney-Jakarta leg the charges are much higher for business class. Qantas does this because they can.

Thank you all. I was naively looking on the Qantas site for details.
