Shanghai (PVG) Stopover Tips

Any recommendation where to stay for 2 nights in early February, preferably easy access from the airport to the Cruise Terminal, and does anyone have any suggestions that will be helpful, thanks in Advance.

I haven't been to the cruise terminal but looking at the map it seems anywhere around the Bund is going to be ok for accommodation. Other places like Jing An Temple or Peoples Square would also be ok. The advantage of somewhere like Jing An is easy transport - a non-stop bus from the airport to Jing An in 50 minutes for $4 per person.

Anywhere else is either going to be train (either metro all the way which i wouldn't recommend, or Maglev connecting to metro) or taxi (or car arranged by the hotel, but these can be hugely overpriced).

The Bund will give you the real history of Shanghai - the river, architecture, and historic hotels. There are restaurants right there making it all very easy.

If you had an idea of budget that could assist with hotel choices.

That can be a bit of a tough market. IIRC the Sofitel just off the Bund is in about that price range, Les Suites Orient are just above that price. The historic Waldorf and Peace Hotels are significantly more. Other non-chain hotels can be in the $150 category but you really need to 'know' what they're like before committing. It's unfortunate the Astor House Hotel has closed. Not 5-star, but once accommodated the likes of Einstein, Ulysses S. Grant and Chaplin. Most of the rooms and public areas preserved pretty well from those times. It was a great hotel for visitors to get a real expereince.

I'd preobably recommend staying on the Bund if you've only got a couple of days. Dinner at Lost Heaven (Bund branch) is meduim priced but a really good experience, followed by drinks at the Waldorf or Peace hotels. It will be cold though! During the day you can easily stroll around for a couple hours and head up Nanjing Road towards Peoples Square.

Will definitely go higher was just using that a ball park figure as we usually go for nice Smaller boutique hotels .

With 'small boutique' in China read the reviews very carefully!
