Hi,
My preferred route for travel was using a medium amount of Amex points, transferring them to AAdvantage through SPG and then topping up with purchase of AAdvantage points to buy travel a year out for next holiday.

With the SPG /Marriot merge and the devaluation of this to make it useless, is there another way to get my Amex points into a FF scheme that also allows me to buy points at a reasonable price (like AA or United ?)

thanks

Can you do this with the Hilton transfer option or was this only for SPG?

In short 'no'. As far as I can see, the easy points-buying programmes (AA Alaska Avianca (and SPG)) are now all economically inaccessible from Amex.
Still possible to use card points oneway and bought miles back but depends on having enough card points
