Just received an email from Jetstar that from 1st May 2018 passengers on Jetstar domestic flights will need to use credit cards or Visa Debit or Mastercard Debit cards, to make inflight purchases. This will bring Jetstar domestic in line with international flights.

As an aside, doesn't Qantas still use cash for inflight purchases on some domestic flights? I would have expected Qantas to go cashless first!

(Unfortunately) I had to fly JQ into OOL the other day and they announced this. The 18yo next to me didn’t have a cc. Thankfully he had enough cash, but I wonder what will happen in the future for his ilk?

On the way back I flew QF. Conversely, the person over the aisle had no cash (I forgot you had to pay for booze in the afternoon) and they didn’t take cc. Made me laugh.

I know a fair few people that don't carry cards of any sort. It's silly not to accept cash.

Isn't Qantas still cash only for all domestic flights?

"Jetstar passengers without a credit card will no longer be able to purchase any of the overpriced food on board", not very diplomatic

It's not wrong, I find $4 for a can of soft drink and double that or more for alcohol to be on the pricey end these days. Considering this is a "low cost carrier" you should be forgiven for thinking prices should be lower... of course we all know that's just a ruse these days to unbundle and charge excessively.

Still cheaper than most sporting grounds (beers $9+ and soft drinks $5)

Mind you prices on AirAsia (and X) are much lower

At least it's a 375ml can of soft drink and not one of those lousy 300ml or 250ml cans one comes across at other places.
And they have PepsiMax!
After two weeks of being unable to find any PepsiMax in Bali, it was sheer heaven to pay my four bucks and savour my exquisite can of PepsiMax. And then another one too.

Renato

Isn't this how they can afford to be low cost?

Yes, that's the mistake people make when booking them most of the time.

When I was looking at car hire for 3 weeks and AFF said get a Jaguar, I scoffed. But adding in traditional price for 2nd driver, buying or hiring a sat nav, delivery and pickup of car from our hotel, it was more affordable to use Avis Prestige than Thifty ect. AFF, always teaching me new tricks.

SGD4 for small Coke.

Oh and no Coke Zero/Coke Light. Or is that 3K?

I'm disappointed that members here didn't see the opportunity to collect the cash from your fellow passenger and then buy their items on your CC and collect the points! :) Hopefully they will even thank you for being such a good samaritan!!!

In fact, if you were keen, you could walk infront of the trolley offering to help out everyone on the flight in this terrible situation :)

I think food prices at the local cinema will be higher than this.

Cinemas don't sell food. They sell cough!

As an aside, when the cinema charges you $10 for popcorn, the bucket/bag costs them more than the popcorn itself.

LOL. I'd take a long time on JQ flights to save enough for a flight redemption. ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Don't often travel with an LCC, and have never purchased food/beverages on-board. I however find $4 for a can of coke at 40,000ft reasonable, considering what one would pay on the ground anyway...

Looked at my Amex and there's a $35 charge from Integrapay. Never heard of them. Looked up Google and after a few minutes realised it was the scratchies I bought on the JQ flight on the weekend.

Why is it so difficult to change the transaction description to "Jetstar inflight sales"?
