TomCat's new digs!

thats terrible :(.
Nothing really surprises me at this point. We signed the quote on the day but somehow they never sent us the paperwork for it so it didn’t make it into the final costing (we still need to double check but not tonight, I’m over it). We should have our permit by next Friday and they have to start within three weeks so won’t be too much longer. Sounds like they’ve admitted that things have gone badly and it should never have taken this long. Not that it helps us now. I just want to be in the house well before the end of the year.

Hopefully it will go better from now - it should be more simple once you are through this phase. And yes a double check is worthwhile just in case!

On the sheets topic, our bed has a very deep mattress so most of the cheaper fitted sheets which are only 40cm depth don't fit. :( That said, we only need 2 sets of sheets as we only have one bed so it's not all bad. You would be surprised how much space I have freed up by tossing out sheets. :)

I have just started on the linen/toy cupboard upstairs in my decluttering quest. I haven’t started on the linen yet (Mr FM’s toys er games are currently occupying me), but just eye balling the shelves, I reckon there is an awful lot of sheets and towels I can get rid of, even keeping a few sets for guests.

As we don't put guests up at our place, I managed to get rid of lots of sheets and older towels (though I do like towels so they were harder to cull).
And if anyone is wondering if we are particularly anti-social, as we have 5 hotels within a minute or two's walk, we book visitors in to one of them. If going to be for more than a day or so, we will book an apartment for them. We don't have overnight guests very often and so it makes sense for us.
You just have to be ruthless FM and if you find you've gone a bit too far, you can always buy new ones. :):p

yes - would like to not have visitors, because I am anti social, but can’t see that happening :). I am getting more ruthless by the day, although sometimes I feel I am just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic :(.

I started painting today. The start of 12 months preparation for sale. That being the case I told the guy doing the heavy work that his painter was looking like Rembrandt which we do not want given the pending sale. Trying to cut back on costs. No, I don’t want the walls sanded first. No, that does not need fixing. I’m painting upstairs where it is built in to a Tudor house. I am at the stage of WTF was I thinking. But I’ve painted most of this house before, even very high ceilings but won’t be doing that downstairs this time.

Reminds me when we sold MIL bluestone cottage. It has pinpointing ? Between sandstone. Guy wanted several thousands of dollars to paint in the black lines. I tried a thin texta in an obscure place. Worked like a dream. Still does, many many years later.

I was wondering whether BC and TV would be doing any painting. Might be wise to get some paint the exact colour yours is being painted, for those inevitable marks on walls and actual patch up work. The range of even just white is staggering.

Yes to the sheets having deep walls. Our mattress is deep with a latex topper plus I add a feather topper and a deep mattress protector. I blame hotel stays. Got the topper off ebay (WA) but spend your time looking into the quality/gram weight.

No painting for us thank goodness. Hopefully we can keep leftover paint, but it won’t be hard to get a small tin given it’s Dulux Antique White USA.
I remember when we were first married we rented a half house in Carnegie (Vic). At one stage we had a dart board hanging on one of the doors (as you do). When we were leaving we thought we had better paint over the panel where the darts that missed the board landed. Assumed it was a white door but as the house was very old, the white had turned to a grimy cream colour. Never mind, the owner never even went inside and just gave us the bond back. :) House is long gone now.
Hopefully if you ever need to touch up the paint BC it will still be the original colour.

It is getting exciting BC & TV. All hanging out here for the build to start. :)
