Platinum
So, it looks like I'm going to hit Platinum for the very first time 2 weeks before my anniversary/reset date. While I will have the status for the return leg of the trip that gets me over he hurdle, do I have it for the whole next year or so I revert back to gold and have to re-earn the platinum?

You'll have it for the next year as well as the remaining 2 weeks of your current year.

and a lower bar to requalfy - 1200.

When's the best time to travel to keep gold for as long as poss ... I may be able to hit gold 6 weeks before my year is up at end Aug 18.

How long would I keep it? I could rearrange my idea and lower it to 4 weeks before the end of my year if that would help.

You will keep it for the remainder of the current year plus the next 12 months. Sooner the better :D

The only time this matters is when FIRST attaining status. Requalifying is no difference as you already have it

however say you go from zero to Plat with a membership year end of December, then if you attain it in January, you'd get 11ish months, plus the 12 of the next year so say 23 months of status, however if you attained it on 29 December, you'd only get 12 months and 2 days wotrth (give or take when it posts and all that)

so only makes a reasonable amount of difference for new status gain (or, a status UP say Gold -> Plat)

Sure. The OP was talking about achieving SG not retaining it.

We're both silver at this time and have been for a while. So, it looks like Puska's comment applies to us.

But, good for future reference.
