I have an overnight stopover/transit in Singapore on 16 June. The BA flight arrives at 21:45 and the CX flight departs at 13:30 the next day.

Accommodation rates are crazy in Singapore that week. Just as an example the Holiday Inn Atrium is S$430, the Holiday Inn Parkview is S$520 and the Intercontinental does not have availability. I have looked at other accommodation websites and the rate for a reasonable hotel is at least US$200. I have not looked at reviews yet so more than likely this rate will creep up to US$300. I can't see myself paying that much just for a room for a night.

Anyone know what is happening in Singapore that week? Arriving at that time of the night I can't get the ferry to Batan or even a flight to Kuala Lumpur. One of these days QF/BA will schedule a flight that arrives into SIN at a reasonable hour to allow further same day connections into other Asian destinations.

Is staying in the airport for 12 hours an option? Will I be able to spend any time in one of the Oneworld lounges even though my departure is not until the next day? I can't check the luggage through to BKK as it is an overnight connection. If I have to collect luggage on arrival into SIN how do I get back into the terminal if check-in does not open until 3 hours before the flight? Would it be possible to get a boarding pass at the Transfer desk before clearing immigration?

Has anyone done anything similar? Any other hotel recommendations that I may have missed? If worse comes to worse I could redeem a one night award at the Holiday Inn Atrium for 15,000 PC points or an award at the Holiday Inn Parkview for 25,000 PC points but both of these options are very poor value considering that these are normally S$180-S$200/night hotels.

Or the Hilton in Orchard rd for 25K HHonors points.

Jenny and I are taking a 24H break from our June ATW and the Hilton was showing min SGD459 flexi and SGD412 pre-paid for the 29th. :shock:

So I've burnt 25K HHonors points instead.

JohnK - I suspect nothing going on SIN, this seems to be the norm for SIN, very high occupancy rates year round. Last few times I've been there been very $$$. A few weeks ago, due to this very problem, I booked The Scarlet, which looks OK on paper (no points though) for around $170USD. As it happened didn't need to stop off in Singapore so cancelled so can't offer a review.

Otherwise you could try the transit hotel in any one of the terminals at Singapore Airport and easily spend your hours in transit - especially with access to the FCL (if you can overcome the luggage problem). Other one to try is the hotel at Changi Village (used to be Le Meridien) but now I think a Far East hotel.

I can see that there is a Glogal AIM Congress on

Hilton is booked out so assume no award availibility as well.

A couple of days before and towards the end of the week room rates look normal.

I don't mind spending the hours in the lounge and I can even have a shower and sleep OK. The transit hotel looks good assuming there is availability. But the the luggage appears to be a hassle as I think I have to clear immigration. Can anyone confirm? Carry on only is also not a possibility.

OK, that is probably the reason for hotel availability and the crazy room rates.

Try the transit hotel at the airport. I think its around $60 SGD for 6 hours. You could book 12 hours for $120 SGD and not have to worry about taxis into the city.

You can still access the QF First lounge given that you should have a CX boarding pass and are WP. Free food and drinks.....!

CommunicAsia is on (which I normally go to) and I usually book my hotel with BA at this time, they have 81 opera for $120 or Rendezvouz which is my fav for just under $200!

Hi

Whoever mentioned the scarlet it is nice....
It has a sister hotel called 1929 (that is SG$160/night++) but it can be a bit noisy near China town and the rooms are small.... but Internet is free and its a nice little hotel.

The scarlet is SG$230++
The Oxford is SG$170++ but i have no idea at all what its like, i dont see any major conferences scheduled.

As a note all my room rates i use went up SG$50 a night between 2007 and 2008 !!! so Holiday inn park view was $168 now $220, same with all the others.

Very tight market !

John, PM is you need me to try and book any of those for you.

Shangri-la is $285 that night
(btw Holiday-inn park view and the Novotel clark quay are both showing for me as $441)

We are intending to use the Transit Hotel this August when transferring from JL722 to QF32 the next morning. I, too, had concerns about what to do with the bags but Transfer Information on the Changi Airport site seems to indicate that they will transfer OK.

It appears ComminicAsia could be the conference that is on, otherwise just lost of small ones. I have a list from last year if anybody wants me to attach.

Can I get a boarding pass for a flight scheduled the next day?

That sounds reasonable. Would I get credit from PC for the stay? Can you check availability for 16 June?

I remember recently someone posting that you can't check luggage through with overnight transits in SIN.

I have been able to check through when QF31 used to arrive at 1145PM and I was on CX at 1PM the next day to BKK, however the transit hotel is very hard to get bookings for!

It right at the end of this: The PC SHOW

This takes up the entire Singapore Exhibition Centre at Suntec -they expect nearly a million visitors.

.

I know with SQ you can get the boarding pass 48 hours prior.

Not sure about CX....

But you can at lease use the QF/BA J lounge as a WP member at any time. It's actually got a coughtail bar, which the F lounge does not have!

I have left the booking late, only 5 more nights until trip, and the Singapore transit hotel is booked out in all terminals in all time slots. I am now looking at staying in a cheap hotel in Singapore or use PC points if possible but can't check PC right now as I can't log in.

Has anyone stayed at Hotel81 or Fragrance hotels? Can you recommend any of them? There are a few varieties of each chain and they are mostly 2 star properties. I am not expecting luxury but by the same token I wouldn't want to end up in a filthy place.

Hotel81 - Orchid

Fragrance Emerald Hotel

Fragrance Pearl Hotel

The Atrium is available (2 single bed Business room) for 15000 points. Nice hotel, but a little out of the way.
Singapore Parkview is 25000 points for several room types.
Intercontinental is 30000 points for several room types.

Changi Airport Crowne Plaza is from $SG290/night (++taxes etc I think) - When did this open? Can't recall seeing it previously?? Did it change from a Holiday Inn?
Atrium is from $SG390 ++
ICH is from $SG390 ++
Parkview is from $SG295++

I would still show up and ask as they have may have "no shows", esp. as you don't need to put a deposit to secure a room. I booked my transit hotel 4 & 1/2 months in advance :oops:

I believe it opened May 28, and I also think it is new.
