No Christmas Voucher Offer this year???

Doesn’t buying / using a gift voucher save the booking cc fee? Why wouldn’t people buy them every time they were going to make a bkg?

I sometimes do bother to do that, but since the new legislation on surcharging and the ensuing ACCC crackdown, I just suck it up and pay the extra couple of dollars rather than spend time buying a voucher, waiting for the voucher to issue, using their separate voucher booking interface, then complaining to them because it then doesn't ticket properly...

Depending on circumstances I also sometimes use Amex Travel to avoid the CC surcharge - I'm not a huge fan of Amex Travel and their prices for hotels etc often aren't great, but for your typical domestic or trans-Tasman QF airfare their prices will be the same as everywhere else, but with no CC surcharge.

Thanks ajd. I so rarely pay for fares that I wasn't aware the cc fee had plummeted.

Lucky :)

For the record - it's now 1.23% for credit cards, 0.63% for debit/prepaid cards, capped at $11 for domestic/NZ and $70 for international.

So for a $150 fare that's $1.85, rather than the $7 or whatever it used to be.

I will continue to buy gift vouchers for my domestic travel. Don't know if I want to buy 2-3 x $1,000 vouchers up front or buy a number of $50 gift vouchers and make up the difference at TV time of booking.

Still disappointed there wasn't a promotion last year.

They more than make up for the CC savings if you need to amend/cancel a flight. The fees are extortionate and on top of the carrier fees.

Oh, yes, that is of course correct, like pretty much every other travel agent out there. Hence why I still hesitate to go down that path - but on the other hand, my personal travel plans are generally very firm and unlikely to change. Obviously doesn't work for a lot of people on this forum.

Can't seem to use a voucher when booking via the business rewards website to attract additional 7% discount (8% discount if you spend $$$ with Qantas)

I avoid TAs for QF bookings - Voucher a simple way to save a few $
I know you generally stay at chain hotels so not really suitable to you but I'm going to try something different. I won't buy gift vouchers to save a few $$ here and there but will be making flight bookings as normal hoping to receive the occassional $30 Qantas hotel vouchers instead. I love paying $7-$8/night for the hotel we usually stay in Pattaya.
