I can get an award flight over...

Which will cost:
Points & Credit Card = 36,000 + $177.62 (AUD)

1 adult x 36,000 = 36,000

Charges/taxes = $177.62

Now, to get back.. I'd like to try and be on the same flight as my mate (QF70, departing 19 July), which has a seat available at 105,000 YEN (Approx $1050 AUD).

Is there any better way to do it ?

Will QF let me book it, through their JP website? Or would I be better using Expedia ($1019) -- if it's even allowed to just book a 1 way award -> NRT, then a paid fare NRT-PER?

Looking at the flight, J9 C9 D9 Y7 B6 H5 K4 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 it is rather full. I suggest purchasing a ticket soon as the prices are only going to rise as K sells out.

Yes, QF will allow you to book it. I have booked 1 way tickets from NRT-BNE via QF in the past. In my case, they even charged my card in Mascot in AUD saving me conversion fees.

I have had AUD charges on ex-SIN tickets before aswell. Seems to be be hit and miss. Last 2 have been in SGD.

Would Expedia be the best place to purchase then, at $1019?

I can't seem to find any reference to a c/c surcharge?

Zuji comes in around $1034..

One thing I noted via the QF.jp site is this

Classed as Full Economy for Status Credit Earn.

That is a rather healthy 70SC for the 1 way sector.

The Super Kangaroo and Flexi Kangaroo fare both show up as Discount Economy earning for me, when I click on more details..

Very strange... just tried the booking again, and it definitely shows as Disc. Econ for me

No biggie anyway.. I would be crediting to AA.

So would I be correct to assume that would be booking into K class? Therefore, on AA that would be 1 EQM per mile.

Thanks for your help, appreciated.

Ok, have booked my flight there:
Perth to Tokyo
Qantas Airways QF079 Aircraft: Boeing 767-300/300ER
On the seat map, I have been allocated 25K, however there seems to maybe be better seats; namely 25A/B, 23A/B?

Any thoughts, or experiences on the 763 to NRT?

Ok, have snagged 23A -- apart from the Exit Rows, is there any better seat I could get keeping in mind its an overnight flight and am travelling there by myself? On the way home, my mate will be with me though, as that's who I'm meeting up with over there.

What date is this flight?

If 24F is available it is a good seat for legroom - better than 34ABJK IMO.

See here:

Ok, I have booked QF70 for July 19.

The seat map is really weird.. In row 34 AB JK are there, and then just E by itself...... does that seem right? It shows up like that on Expedia, and CMT.

Edit: doesn't reallllly matter so much, I've now got 24F again. So 24F there, 24F coming back - about as good as it can get in economy on that particular flight for an overnighter methunk. Still interested to know why it shows up as that. It's interesting to note also, that its the only exit row seat thats available for selection being a lowly PS.

Found this, which may be of interest - is a nice description of the seats available: Best Y & J seats on 767-338? - FlyerTalk Forums

For Business Class the A seat as mentioned is nice if your travelling alone.

In Economy there are several seats I personally would choose from and here they are

23ED are a pair of seats at the front of economy - You'll get served first, both seats have aisle access and are right in front of the movie screen. One thing to note you are right next to the only bassinet in economy.

24F is an aisle seat and has no seat in front of it. You'll be first served and has a clear view of the movie screen.

26AB are good seats because the seats infront will be unoccupied as the pilot crew rest extends into the area of 25AB preventing them from been used - so no body can recline into your space. You'll also be served first and can see the movie screen too.

The exit row seats are obviously most wanted. If you can get 35AB or JK as opposed to 34AB or JK you'll get more leg room. But again as mentioned it does get a bit chilly. Note that 34AB & JK are next to the toilets but are infront of movie screens.

35DEF are in front of the movie screen but your leg room is reduced because of this being a bulkhead seat.

53AB & 55JK are nice if you want to be able to recline the whole flight but be away from the toilets and galley. This is because 54AB are crew rest seats so will be unoccupied during meal service and 55JK are the last row on the right hand side. But beware you'll be last to be served so might miss out on your choice of meal.

Seats from row 49 back are able to see the TV monitors from the ceiling at row 48 and are nice because you can recline and look directly up as opposed to having to look forward.

Avoid any seat in row 30 - they are all in front of the toilets.
