Westpac have a current 80000 Qantas or Altitude points bonus offer but you are ineligible for the bonus points if you hold or have held a Altitude Black or Altitude Platinum in the previous 12 months.

Pointhacks has a current deal where you get an extra 20000 points on top of the 80000 if you use their link....and here is the best part. The T&C's on the Westpac site when going through the pointhacks link only mention the exclusion for those who have held the Platinum card.

I applied through the link, received approval and just had confirmation that I am eligible for the bonus despite closing my previous Black card only 8 months ago.

So those waiting for the 12 months....wait no more.

Seems they have changed this now, but timely for me, my wife is over that 12 month period.

Is there anyway on the Westpac online banking site to see the points you've earned for this card like you can do on the ANZ site?

So what are people going for, the QFF points of the Altitude? I've never really used Altitude before and while the 100k QFF points would put me well above the 280K QF points required for a OW J RTW redemption I'm wondering if people see some good transfer options with the Altitude points?

No thought otherwise for me. Qantas all the way.

Out of interest does anyone know how long the bonus points are taking to post?

The short answer is minimum 90 days, maximum 180 days.
Long answer is that I made the minimum spend criteria with the purchase in June and I was expecting bonus points to post within 90 days of that date - that's how I interpreted the fine print. Contacted Westpac last week as close to 120 days out still no bonus points. Agent said that bonus points will be posted anytime within 90 days of the end of the 90 days within which the spend criteria had to be met!

That's against the terms of the offer which state:

'The bonus Altitude Points or Qantas Points will be added to your points balance within 12 weeks of the eligible spend criteria being met.'

Given these terms have not been met you should contact Westpac and inform them that they are in breach of their contract with you. Do this in writing. The next thing to tell them is what compensation you require for this breach of contract. If it was me I'd suggest the immediate awarding of the missing bonus points as well as a full refund of the annual fee.

If you do a search of the HSBC credit card offering about a year ago you'll find something similar happened to me. Got everything I was after in that case.

Thanks Dr Ralph. I will follow up with Westpac but happy to wait it out as I am in no hurry for the points and just in case they realise they haven't charged me the (discounted) annual fee.

You're much more patient and tolerant than I would be. A breach of contract requires compensation. And potentially allows you to terminate the contract. By not acting on the breach you are sending a clear message that you are happy with their conduct and this may also mean that you loose a right to compensation in the future.

I was on the phone with Westpac yesterday and apparently the whole thing is a mess. The agent I spoke to estimated he had received around 500 queries and complaints about the posting times.

Hope I'm in the same situation. I wont have any hesitation in exploiting the opportunity for free points if they breach their contract with me.

The twitter conversation I had said they found it weird that points hadn't posted. looks like it really is a mess on their end.
I have informed them that they have breached their own terms and conditions but I don't expect much, we just want our points to book some flights dammit.

I've contacted Westpac again today and quoted Dr Ralph's suggestion of compensation! Dead silence! Anyway, investigation launched and should hear back within 3 working days. My minimum spend was reached with an ATO bill so I'm expecting them to come back with 'doesn't meet criteria' but I did check that before I did it and it did earn points prior to the changes.

You need to be assertive. If they have broken the terms of the contract you need to repeat the phrase 'You have breached the conditions of the contract between us. I require damages to be paid'. I'd also mention that you will take the matter to the FOS. That will get them very interested!

I applied for the card in July and hit the $5k spend in one month with council rate and health insurance (so definitely legitimate spend) and still haven't got points today (only saw the normal points coming through).

Me too. They have 3 more days to meet the T&C's for the first 20K BP's which are awarded within 8 weeks of approval and then they have another approx. 4 weeks to award the 80K BP's within 12 weeks of meeting spend.

I can feel an annual fee reimbursement or at least 20K QFF in my waters.

I have never had a problem with receiving decent compensation for any breach of T&C's from any bank.

Second statement today, so just over the 8 week period and no 20k points. Complained and got a very polite call back to confirm they'd messed something up and I'd get them by Wednesday. Have now requested a full refund of the annual fee.

As always, my advice is to put it in writing and clearly indicate that they have breached their contract with you.

Just got off the phone again to Westpac about my first lot of 20,000 points not arriving within the 8 weeks as stated in the T&C's. Despite promising a call back in 2-3 days it never happened but the phone rep told me that there is a LARGE backlog of points claims that have to be sent out manually due to what she stated was a "human error". I explained to her that if I make a human error and forget to pay a payment on time that I am certain Westpac would not just let go of any fees I incurred for the late payment.

Said it would take possibly another week and that even when they arrived they would not transfer to Qantas until Dec 6th due to the points missing my (cycle).

I have their customer complaints number 1300130206 and will be speaking to them tomorrow. She told me that they do NOT have an email contact when I asked.

I can feel an annual fee reimbursement AND some bonus points are on the way.

Anyone else caught up in this should pursue them strongly for appropriate compensation.
