Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

And why the paranoid security on their website - to log in you need your QFF number, surname and PIN number and then you get hit with the text message 2 factor authentication, after all that, to view a statement online it prompts you to enter your password!

Because they don't actually understand security at all. They think just making life painful for the customer means someone "thinks" it is all nice and safe.

Y'know even if it's a poor implementation of the security I'd prefer more complex security than easy or little security tbh.

At least, for example, to activate the card you need more than a PIN that used to be sent in the post (let alone some cards apparently were arriving pre activated... stolen from letter boxes and bam!). Yes, the system is a little annoying at times, but chances are it's MUCH harder for the naughty types to get in. I mean say someone steals your wallet containing your QFF Card and your CC... they still can't get in without the PIN/Password... I think that's a good thing. The QF Money app at least lets you in with the 4 digiti PIN to see transactions and balances, and that suits me fine for the every day use of it (to see if there are any unexpected transactions, or what balance to pay etc).

It could be better sure.. but it could also be far worse... IMHO

SMS as 2 factor authentication has been broken numerous times and its now not best practice to use anymore. There are lots of alternatives - Qantas should really be using them now rather than SMS

Has anyone got their lounge passes yet - or do you need to do anything special to get them? (Sorry if already covered - I went back over 10 pages and couldnt see any info on this)

From memory I did get an email. But it was two weeks after they showed up here :
https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/the-qantas-club/complimentary-invitations.html

Login and see if they are there.

Yep there they are - was expecting to get them in paper form like the other cards do
Thanks

If they have a QFF account you can transfer the passes to them.

Unfortunately they don't, they also were travelling with etihad this trip. I tried to get them to sign up for the amex so they could use points to put towards their next flight and use the line passes.

Unfortunately they are set in their ways.

er well if they were flying Ethiad (or even Emirates, which is the QF partner) these passes would be useless as they are only valid when flying QF or JQ.

Yes but I didn't know they were flying etihad until about 3 days ago. I figured they were flying qantas like they always do.

After getting past that hurdle then it requires a 8 digit pin number with a capital letter, a number and one of those special characters. !@#$%^&^, none of my other passwords have them, I am going to drown in passwords, not sure how you older folk deal with it, so dam annoying.

My folks write down their passwords. Yes, I realise that if that piece of writing is ever found, they just might be screwed. Trust me, they aren't in any position to listen to any advice to the contrary.

ACTUALLY................... Link your Amex to Paypal and use Australia Post Billpay to pay and most of these organisations that won't accept Amex will accept Australia Post Billpay, you use PAYPAL linked to your high point earning card and you are in business....

Now there's a good idea... unless Australia Post Billpay is considered "government" (because Australia Post is a government company). Amex treats Australia Post transactions (i.e. the ones you do in their branches) as government IIRC; unsure how they treat Billpay.

You have just made me realise that apparently I have not made the $3k minimum spend, apparently due to a similar issue. Hence I haven't got my 60,000 bonus points yet. I went back and checked my statement, and figured out that my points earn is less than what you would expect based on my spend of about $3,300 excluding annual fee, and the difference is exactly the same as two utility (gas and electricity) bills that I paid.

I have also gone back and checked the T&Cs, and I agree that there is no mention of utility bills being ineligible for points earn. The T&Cs state:

Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments to other Citi accounts, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Qantas Points and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).

So it seems that utility bills are also not excluded, even though not stated in the T&Cs - personally I don't think that's acceptable, so I plan to call them. This also suggests that any transaction that is not eligible for points earn is also not counted towards the minimum spend.

Well ain't I a sucker. At least I won't be paying any more "government bills" with the card (or at least I'll be trying to pay them with Paypal or AusPost BillPay).

Going to wait for my next statement and next credit of points to see if the full bonus comes through. If not, I'll be making enquiries.

One of the things I noticed is that unlike Amex, you don't actually get told how many points each of your transactions earns. Of course you can manually work it out, and maybe Citibank works it out by formula rather than itemising it themselves.

Main reason I got this card because I needed a points-earning card which wasn't an Amex, and this one had the best signup bonus and I could afford to get this card. I'll reevaluate next year.

What's a better method of 2FA than SMS? Not saying you're wrong, because SMS as the only method of 2FA means I'm 95% screwed if I'm overseas.

I would assume either a special code delivered by app or an extra peripheral (like mini calculator or code tag) is a superior method.

I got my lounge passes probably within about two weeks of activating the card and well before my first statement or even hitting the first $3,000 of spend. Confirmed as being in my account by checking the Lounge Invitations link.

Any recent experience on how long approvals are taking? Submitted lunchtime yesterday and hoping to jump through the hoops so I can start spend in a fortnight

Just bumping this. Track my application shows the page we will review your application which is what was displayed when i hit submit. Thanks

Perhaps give them a call and proactively ask them if they need more information. That's the best way to speed along applications if they're taking things slow.

My autopay application failed so I haven't used the card for a few weeks.
